I learned a new Elvis ditty today. Well, new to my hands, at any rate; I've known "Fame and Fortune" since I was a kid, and it's one of my favorite Elvis ballads. But now I can play it on the gee-tar. It's written out in the key of C in my old Elvis songbook, but after trying to play along with the recording I discovered that the recording is actually in B flat, so I had to transpose the bugger into G and then play with my capo on my third fret to kick it into B flat.
Fortunately, playing in the key of G made for a bunch of chords I mostly already knew, though I had to learn Em7, Am7, and D7-9. I kind of already also knew C minor, since I play B minor as a barre chord and could just move one fret further along the neck to get C minor. But those are some nice chords. Playing it in the key of C required me to learn Dm7, which is also nice, and the F minor version of the F# minor barre chord I already knew. I didn't play it all the way through in C just because I wanted to play along with Elvis, but I think I will practice it in both keys just to get both sets of chords into my fingers.
I also bought the songbook that goes along with the CD they released with the remix of "A Little Less Conversation" on it, since I really wanted the chords to that as well. But the added bonus to that songbook was that I discovered that this new book has a different and more complicated chord arrangement for "Suspicious Minds" than my old book does... it has required me to throw in some D6, some Cdim, and some G/D, and it asks for a bunch of C/G and C/F as well, which makes playing the song rather different than I'd gotten used to. It also wants some different chords later, which should be fun to play, especially in the bridge that kicks into 6/8.
