There has been an AMAZING silence out of Nexinfo ever since I sent them the words "if I am short anything I am due by the terms of my contract on my final paycheck, your company WILL be hearing from my lawyer".

OTOH, isn't that group typically quiet? I mean, you have problems hearing from them?

Yeah, historically Nexinfo hasn't said squat to me unless I've exploded at them. This past week they've been fairly good about communicating with me in a timely fashion but I suspected that that was purely due to me having issued them a deadline, by which they had to tell me something or else I was walking off the contract. Money was at stake, so they had to talk to me.

However, I am grimly amused that I haven't heard a damned thing from them since yesterday morning, which was when I invoked the L-word. I suppose that on the grand scale of things threatening them with legal action over $280 is pretty petty... but this is just the final straw after four months of stunning ineptitude, and thanks to having taken care of another pressure upon my heart last night I now have the space to be infuriated about their continued attempts to dick me around.

I am just waiting now to see whether they'll actually go "gosh you're right, we're sorry" or order me off the contract and try to sic a lawyer on me. Considering how this week has gone so far I am somewhat more expecting the latter.

Actually... considering the amount of money, they probably would not want to get a lawyer involved since they will cost more than it would to get you out of their proverbial hair ;) AND since you have all the backup of your pay stubs etc, it would be difficult to put a case against you.

The law is funny that way - when you're in the right.

Their accounting department tried to claim that the information on my paystubs, which actually reflects their two-week pay period system, is irrelevant. For example, my first pay stub was printed out for the pay period of 9/7 to 9/20. Since I am a third party contractor, at least according to their accounting chick, the paychecks I was issued only count for first half of month, last half of month, wash, rinse, repeat.
