Tonight, our house got broken into.

Around 2 or 2:30 or so solarbird called the cops on the kids next door, who have been a distinct nuisance ever since they moved in, throwing bottles at passing cars and the like; tonight, Dar was seeing them throw stuff down at our car and she had to make sure they weren't damaging it.

In evident retaliation, around 4am or so our kitchen window was smashed and Rebecca's space downstairs was broken into, and her laptop taken.

As of this writing I have been up for two hours, a bundle of nerves and twitchiness, while Dar has talked with police and been diligently cleaning up the glass outside and trying to make repairs to what's left of our kitchen window.

It is a wonder that our poor remaining budgie was not harmed in any way that I can tell by the window being busted, and I am deeply anxious about Cirrus, our outdoor cat.

I want to return this week for one that doesn't suck.

I honestly missed most of what the cops had to say, because thanks to all the other crap that happened to me yesterday thanks to the bozons at Nexinfo as well as other stuff I won't get into here, I was already exhausted and crying off and on. So as soon as I was sure Rebecca was okay and Dar was dealing with the cops, I tried to go back to bed. All I know is that they basically said that they would watch the other house "more closely", which isn't exactly helpful.

Yeah, we're fine, at least physically. The cats are fine. The birds are fine. Rebecca's laptop is gone but fortunately most of the data on that had been backed up to one of our computers upstairs, so she hasn't lost much more than maybe a year's worth of email.

I might suggest putting Cirrus in the basement for the time being. Did you tell the police that you think you know who it was? That's so awful. Was it the house between The Murks and Mini-Murks, or the one on the corner?

Dar gave them all the relevant details when she spoke with them last night, yeah. Burglary

It's really horrible to be burglarized. It happened to us last summer, and it literally changed me forever. For one, just the fact that I lost everything of sentimental value to me (they took my jewelry box, with a lifetime of trinkets in it and photos) and two, I just frankly never feel secure. My own home just really doesn't feel cozy and safe to me. They burglarize alot more than just your possessions. (Plus, we also lost a computer with a ton of irreplacable photos of Violet's first year)

We've already started talking, as I mention above, about saving this household by moving. I could kind of live with petty vandalism in the neighborhood. And even the incidents of serious vandalism we've had to suffer, e.g., the back window of Paul's car getting the sign thrown through it, though that is right there on the borderline between "neighborhood is still liveable" and "fuck it, we're leaving".

Having your house broken into is "fuck it, we're leaving".

This saddens me greatly.

Oh no! I am so sorry to hear that you're house got broken in to. Are these 'kids' living in the same building or under the same landlord? If so, have you thought about complaining to him/her about this? You certainly have more than one person witnessing their deeds now. That ought to be grounds enough to have them tossed on their ears. Or are they minors? If so, go have a chat with their parents. If that doesn't work.. then talk to the landlord... either that or make a friend with mafia ties. :)

They're not in the same building as us; they are one building to the north. Dar and I are the landlords of the house we are in; I am uncertain whether communication with the landlord of that building, an issue about which Dar is generally very good at being versed as she has been heavily involved in neighborhood issues, would be at all useful. I can't remember whether that particular landlord is responsive to communication or not. But it's a very good idea. Thank you.
