Joss is not holding his punches at all this season, and he is such a devious bastard and I LOVE him!

Whoo BOY HOWDY that was intense. From Anya unleashing the Gruesome to Willow unleashing a glimpse of the Black-Eyed She-Witch to Buffy unleashing some Get a Fucking Clue onto Xander, non-stop WOW.

Hysterically funny: the sequences of the days of Aud and Olaf and D'Hoffrin coming to offer Anya her job as a vengeance demon. And the BUNNIES!

Anya's smartass line about "Are there any friends of your left you haven't tried to kill?" (We counted. We're pretty sure that in fact Buffy has tried to kill just about all of her friends at one time or another. It's amazing how she manages to maintain her relationships. ;) )

The SONG! Bwahahahaha! Nice number, too! Especially with the snippets of song coming in from outside the house.

And in the Realm of Well We Didn't See THAT Coming Now Did We?, the toasting of Halfrek! EEK! I mean, well, EEK!

And oh yes, I did in fact go "awwwww sniffle" at the Spike scene at the beginning, yes I did. Poor hallucinating Spike! I was unsure whether the second appearance of Buffy in the scene was real, but Mimi pointed out she was wearing the same clothing then that she did in the rest of the episode so she asserted that was actually real Buffy.

Wow. WOW that was good.

If anyone has any answers for me:

Why did d'Hoffryn go when Willow asked him to? what was in it for him? what bargain did Willow make with him?

If Anya wanted to die, why did she fight back against Buffy? She'd have died several times before that?

I wonder what Xander would have done if he could have saved only Buffy OR Anya -- He could have gotten Buffy killed in this fight but he didn't seem to realize this. OTOH, maybe he was thinking what killing Anya would do to Buffy and so trying to save BOTH of them?

Is Anya human again? Poor girl.

I suspect that D'Hoffryn humored Willow by going to intervene in the situation because he had previously tried to recruit Willow as a vengeance demon -- so he may be thinking if he humors the girl, he can reel her into his fold sooner or later anyway. Then again, he might just be partial to her. ;)

I also suspect that Anya's motives weren't exactly rational. She was already documentedly over the edge, unnerved by what she'd already been doing again as a vengeance demon, and being particularly wigged out by the bloody wrath she unleashed on the frat boys can't have helped matters. I expect she had a big dose of "wanting to die" there, but also a big dose of "wanting to be punished in the most painful way possible" -- and certainly actually fighting with Buffy and taking damage from her is more of a punishment than just letting Buffy kill her. Mix that in with a lingering bitter prideful awareness that why yes, she IS a demon and can hold her own in a fight against a Slayer, and I'm sure Anya's head was a roil of conflicting emotions.

And I'm sure that Xander didn't want either of them to die. Note, his line about "Has everybody had their Crazy Flakes today?!" He couldn't comprehend either why Buffy felt she had to take on Anya OR why Anya felt she had to take on Buffy. Xander can be a right bastard sometimes still -- as he demonstrated in that snide commentary he made to Buffy which led to her slapping him down with the reminder that she had in fact run a sword through Angel's heart -- but I'm sure he didn't want either of them to die.

Poor Hallie indeed, and yes, I expect Anya is probably human again, though granted we didn't have any direct evidence that said so.
