More fun with laptop hardware

solarbird conducted surgery on my laptop's power supply, which involved experimenting on the other one I had left over from the ebay purchase earlier this year -- and she clipped off a bit of the end and then reconnected the wires, and suddenly, boom, I have a power supply again. This also seems to be evidence for the theory that the malfunctioning power supply was in fact screwing around with the hard drive, because now I'm booting up just fine.
On the other hand, one of my screen hinges has cracked again. Grrrrr.
