Movies seen lately:
Men in Black II, seen with Amy as part of her belated birthday celebration. Amy liked the movie, but
solarbird,
spazzkat and I weren't particularly impressed. There were some funny bits, but most of the funny bits were already in the trailers. Mostly, the movie in our joint opinions lacked the comic timing of the first.
Minority Report on the other hand was a pleasant surprise, nicely complicated, and aside from a couple of shaky bits with the plot at a particular scene about midway through the movie, very well thought out. I am neutral on the subject of Mr. Cruise, but he did a fine job in this flick. And I was quite pleased that between Dar, Paul, and me, I was the only one who clued in as to why the precog characters were named what they were, which I shan't elaborate upon here lest spoilers. (Well, okay, I got two out of three and sort of had the third, but for some reason spazzed entirely about that particular name; Paul, however, picked up on that as soon as I identified the other two.)
Bourne Identity, starring Matt Damon, Boy Spy. He still looks mighty young to me, especially to be playing a character like Jason Bourne. I've only read about 150 pages into the book on which this flick is based, but even on that small acquaintance with the character I was able to tell that they'd greatly simplified him and the plot surrounding him in this story, when
mamishka and I went to go see it last night. Pleasant enough flick but I think I'll enjoy the book more, when I borrow it from Meems.
And in GBS news I amused Paul when he overheard me remarking that I had gotten some sun, after wandering around for three hours this afternoon looking for places to leave fliers for the upcoming show. "What, they've got you beating the pavement?" .
What can I say, Alan Doyle is really, really cute. And he sings purty, too. ;) Besides, it gets me out of the house. But them Newfies better appreciate me, wandering around in eighty-mumble heat for three hours looking for places to leave their fliers today. They better give me a T-shirt. ^_^
Only found one good place after a ramble along Sand Point Way and 65th, and that was Gaelsong, the store that sells Celtic-related stuff on 65th. They were quite happy to put a flier on their door when I told them it was for a Celtic rock concert, and were kind enough to point me at Galway Traders over in Ballard, where I will go later in the week.
The other good thing about going to Gaelsong, though, was that they had a list on the door that said "Interested in Irish/Gaelic language lessons?" I am! So I left my name and number on it.
Also, I mailed off a tape of the GBS concert that was broadcast this past Sunday to
syn, one of the many Two Moons denizens who have LJ's and with whom I have been RPing for quite some time. She's a fellow raving GBS fan and made Great Big Puppy Eyes at me when I told her the B'ys had had a concert on TV. I figure I should be hearing her squeal from Tennessee in about four or five days.
Lastly, happily, I got the clasp on Dad's necklace fixed remarkably painlessly. It had been refusing to clasp properly, and Dad's necklace falling off of my neck is absolutely unacceptable. So is replacing the chain. But there's a new-ish jewelry repair place on the Ave, and the old-ish Oriental gent therein replaced the clasp for me, no problem, and even dropped the whole necklace into a little vat-lookin' thingie and hit some buttons, and when my necklace came out it was all shiny. All for five bucks. Cool. :)

Date: 2002-07-23 06:01 pm (UTC)Then I saw Lilo & Stitch Saturday. MAN> That was EXCELLENT> Now I'm trying to find an excuse to go see it again. The last movie I saw more than once in the theatre was Matrix. Though the company in this case had to tolerate his shirt being all soggy afterward

Date: 2002-07-24 12:28 am (UTC)I generally agree about MIIB. The first one had great style and timing, and it holds up well to repeated viewings. The second, well, the jokes seemed worn out after just seeing the _trailers_. It wasn't awful, just predictable. I guess it's just surprising that the first one wasn't.
(Haven't seen the other movies you've seen recently yet.)
