'Cause right now I feel kinda queasy because I think my dinner disagreed with me, but on the other hand, life is pretty darned good in general, so I'm pretty upbeat about it all, though a pile of random things are rolling about in my head.
Dana didn't show up for jam today because her dad passed away, so she's had a rather rough week. I saw her log on in Yahoo Messenger and IM'd her to ask whether she was coming to practice and she told me no and why not, and we chatted for a bit before Cyn and Monica showed up. I could feel for her... what with Dad passing away last May and the fact that what took out Dana's dad was cancer. Cancer. Ugh.
On the other hand, Monica brought up a very interesting point once we got into talking about her wedding. Cyn asked her if she could wear her flaming bowling shirt at the wedding, which Monica basically answered with, "Er, no..." I pointed out that I do in fact own a dress, and Monica wanted to know if it still fit me. Since I'd bought it for Sarah's wedding last June... and I've lost over ten pounds since then. I'll have to try the thing on and see how it fits me now. As of this morning when I got up, I weighed 155.5 pounds, and I was rather startled to see that since over the last couple of days I'd felt heavy, like I'd eaten too much. I'd been trying to eat light to burn it off, and apparently I burned off more than I thought I had.
Musically, I can play "Old Black Rum" now. :D Of course, I'm playing it in G, because the key of G is my friend. Plus, I figured out this little riff-y thing I want to do in the chorus, which I can do really well in the key of G. But alas, the song is not actually in G, it is in F, so I have to figure out whether I want to try to practice the D chords and capo up 2 frets... or actually learn the F key chords. Problem: trying to figure out whether to play the F chords that belong down at the end of the fretboard, or the ones a few frets up. I have to deal with barre chords either way. CHALLENGE!
And I seem to be about >< this close to figuring out how to sing the chorus on "You Woke Up My Neighborhood" too, which'll be good.
I have gotten hold of the email address that belongs to "the Joker" on Gruntland, who is apparently not actually Dave Wilkins. Damn. ;) He is a different Dave entirely, but still obviously possessed of musical clues, which I shall attempt to tap in regards to what the hell "harmonics" are. It feels good to be able to consult those whose music fu is superior to mine! While at the same time, people on greatbigsea.com are asking me about the mandolin, which is very satisfying. This 14-year-old kid wanted to know where I'd gotten mine, how much it cost, and how I learned how to play.
And as I write this, Mimi is now playing with Summer, and boggling over how tiny she is. ;) Hee hee hee.
