Doctor Who reaction post: End-of-season Dark Water spoilers

So even though the household has more or less bailed on giving a damn about watching Doctor Who, I have nonetheless been keeping an eye on the progression of the show via the recap posts that get posted to The Mary Sue and to Tor.com. (Notably, this recap post and this one.

Accordingly, I am now aware of the major spoiler that got dropped in part 1 of the season finale this past Saturday! Discussion of same behind the fold. And this IS a major spoiler, so DO NOT LOOK if you don’t want to be spoiled.

I fell off the viewing bandwagon this season and... so far none of the discussions or recaps have convinced me that I want to change that.

This spoiler sounds interesting, but reading everything else surrounding it... It's not enough to change my mind about that. Like you, it keeps me intrigued enough to keep an eye on recaps and discussions about the show, but I don't see myself tuning in to watch it myself any time soon.

I was commenting that hey, now that's officially a thing, but clauclauclaudia pointed out that it was screen-canon as of Neil Gaiman's episode - apparently there was some line about that in the flood of chatter from the TARDIS.

Yeah, the Time Lord called the Corsair, I remember that line. But there's a BIG difference between having an offhand mention in dialogue about an NPC we've never heard of or seen before, and having a major character do it on screen.
