I'm reading the articles about Katrina in between bouts of post-surgery recovery snoozing, and for any of you folks on my Friends list or who might otherwise be reading this who are on or near the Gulf coast... holding out the hope that you guys will be okay. Katrina looks extremely scary, and the reports of New Orleans having to evacuate are disturbing indeed.

Hang in there. And know, whenever you get a chance to see this, that the rest of the country is thinking about you.

I was stir-crazy and restless and wanting some fresh air, so I said to my beloved [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, "I want to walk down to Lake Forest Park!" Now, those of you who read my journal on a regular basis will know that it's a two-mile walk from my house to LFP and back again. This felt kind of ambitious given that I am Recovery Girl, but I resolved to turn right around and come home the moment I felt shaky. Dara was willing to watch over me as I did this, so we gave it a go.

The walk down to LFP was the slowest we've ever taken it, and I had to in fact consciously make myself take it slowly. But I did in fact make it. By the time we got down there, though, I really needed to sit for a bit--two or three times. It was nevertheless pleasing to be able to run all of our errands, get me a smoothie, and take a slow walk through the Farmer's Market.

The trip back was a bit more difficult, since I was tireder at that point. The weird part was that we actually went faster on the way back than we did on the way there, and I took a bit of a rest once on the way. Dara gave me raspberries, and took my hat and my vest off, and even finally carried my purse for me. The moment we got home I curled up on the couch, while Dara got me my mid-day meds and a bagel sandwich.

[livejournal.com profile] mamishka is here now and we're going to watch The Dead Zone as soon as [livejournal.com profile] risu gets to a good breaking point with the video game she's playing. And Meems has brought me the Serenity #2 comic book, too. I feel tired... but mostly in a good way, like I've had a long day of physical activity. By my current terms, I have. I'm going to be taking it very easy for the rest of the day.
