Since I have been fretting about losing my walking due to the car pooling, my beloved [livejournal.com profile] solarbird cleverly recommended to me over the weekend that if I got up a little earlier, I could get in some walking in the morning. In past days I would have rebelled at this notion, and indeed, when she said I mentally twitched--I don't like to get up until the last possible necessary second.

However, as the audience following along at home may recall, the Photon Cannon of Doom has been regularly waking Dara and me up well before my alarm goes off in the morning. This morning I was conscious before a quarter to seven; this morning, however, I decided to do something different about it. I got up, got myself together, and went out for a walk.

And lo, it was nice. Got to ogle the lake, got some fresh air, and at least until I got down to the bottom of the bill, no noise except the wind and birds. I went all the way down to the bus stop and back, which covers the usual free mile I get when I bus to and from work.

As a result, I'm feeling rather good this morning. Clearly I shall have to do this more often.

Okay, so I just recently discovered that Debian's put out a new stable release, 3.1, and I want to go and upgrade all of murkworks.net's servers to be running this. Just to make sure I'm not missing anything, a question for the Debian geeks out there:

Is there any reason why I can't do this just via an apt-get command? Can I do this via apt-get update/apt-get upgrade, or should I do apt-get update/apt-get dist-upgrade instead? Also, since I have several versions of this, that, and the other package off backports.org, are there special accommodations I should make for that?

Any and all tips appreciated! I'd like to do this this coming weekend, so I'd like to get all my clues in a row before then. Thanks in advance!

I heard tell from [livejournal.com profile] kaseido yesterday that the first issue of the Serenity three-part comic is actually out--which made me go DOH DOH DOH, because I'd been really anxious to pick that up. [livejournal.com profile] mamishka and I made a pact to call around today and see if we had a prayer of finding copies for ourselves; we weren't too hopeful, given that we were five days late (the ish came out on 7/20), and given how fast the tickets for every single movie preview have been slurped up by the Browncoats all over the U.S. and Canada.

However, all hail [livejournal.com profile] lyricae, who found Meems and me some copies of the Captain-Mal-cover version of #1, and ordered them for us! Yay Cheryl! *throws rose petals around*

For other Firefly fans on my list, it may be too late to find copies of issue #1, but start looking NOW and maybe you'll get lucky. Be on the lookout for issue #2's release on 8/3 and #3 on 9/7. Meems and I are hoping for the Kaylee cover for #2, and River for #3!

Also courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] kaseido, here, y'all, have a preview of some of the interior art on issue #1. Looks pretty fine to me! I could hear the character voices jump into my head as I looked it over!

In the meantime, I hopped on the treadmill when I got home to get in the evening exercise, and I feel quite jazzed. I think I'll be getting in some writing tonight, too, after supper!
