One to beam up

Every geek on my Friends list probably knows about this already, but for those of you who don't, James Doohan has passed away. Of especial interest to Washington-based geeks, he was local; he died in his home in Redmond.

Sniffle. I feel like I ought to go home and watch something Star Trek in his honor, and raise a glass of something green.

Tell me your favorite Scotty quotes, folks! Mine isn't just one line--it's the entire conversation he has with Kirk in "The Trouble With Tribbles" about why he started the fight with the Klingons. "He called the Enterprise a garbage scow!"

Speaking of Deirdre Knight...

Just as a general point of interest for anyone who's far enough along with writing to be considering seeking an agent, technosage strongly recommends Deirdre Knight and her agency as being very honest and above-board with clients, and great people as well. If you're not to the point of seeking an agent yet but might be in the future, you might want to file her agency's site in your Bookmarks for later reference!

Also highly recommended: Lucienne Diver of the Spectrum Agency. I tried her last year myself without success, but technosage speaks very highly of her; she got back a very nice, helpful rejection letter from Ms. Diver. (I went to her myself because I'd learned that Ms. Diver handles one of my very favorite authors, but when I went a-Googling, I couldn't find a web page for the Spectrum Agency, just references scattered here and there to their snail-mail address. I have it on file if anyone needs it at some point.)
