Monday morning, damp and awful

I’m pretty sure that if I arrive at work only marginally less damp than I would have done without an umbrella, I might need to think about getting a new umbrella. My pants are wet from the knees down. Yay!

But at least I have on good warm socks and a cup of tea is steeping at my elbow.

Meanwhile I blew the weekend playing way more of our game Unwell Mel than I probably should have done, but hey, we make good games, what can I say? ;) And solarbird has been digitizing a lot of my old filk tapes, finally–which means I can at last get this stuff onto my iPhone. We’re focusing on stuff that has not to my knowledge been released on CD, like the Technical Difficulties tapes, the Where No Man… Trek tape, the general-folk Brandywine tape that’s got some good Julia Ecklar and Leslie Fish on it, and best of all, the original Elfquest tape, the one that isn’t remastered to within an inch of its life.

And this does of course mean I’ll have “Banned from Argo” on the iPhone too. <3

This'll be nice to listen to. I've missed a lot of this; when it comes to filk, I'm really more a fan of the older stuff than I am current, although I do of course like me some vixyish and tfabris and s00j and seanan_mcguire. The Technical Difficulties and Julia Ecklar were really the people who got me interested in filk in the first place!

I rode to work in that weather. No bumbershoot I've ever seen is gonna keep your lower legs dry in this crap, particularly as fast as you walk... only way to keep completely dry is to actually *cover the legs* with something waterproof. I was inordinately fond of my long lost DrizaBone duster, which kept me dry in the rain part of the Hanukkah Eve storm a few years back (quite the accomplishment!); today I have leather overpants. For simply *walking* you can probably get something for maybe as cheap as $30 from REI or the like, a simple nylon pull-on overpant, though; I don't think you want to spend a pair of benjamins on either of my solutions...

'course, the other half of that is I never bothered with the brolly from the get-go, preferring a proper storm hat and waterproof coat... the latter of which you've probably got alreddie. In "standard" Seattle rain you can simply rain-proof your ordinary hat (stuff can be had at REI; I'm fond of the Tek-Wax line, which I use in various incarnations on everything from Polar Fleece to my helmet visor); for serious storms like this you're gonna want a Seattle Sombrero or the like. Yes, hat-head. But you'll be *dry*, and a good one will have a chin strap so it won't blow away in the breezes off the bay.
