Belated Doctor Who reaction post for “Kill the Moon”

We just finished watching last week’s Doctor Who, “Kill the Moon”–because we’d gotten behind what with my having to do a hard press through finishing Victory of the Hawk. But even aside from that, I’d been having a very hard time mustering up enough give-a-damn to actually watch this one. I did ask Dara and Paul if we could watch this one finally back to back with this weekend’s episode, and as it happened, we just watched “Kill the Moon” without moving on to today’s episode.

Dara just declared herself done with the show until Moffat’s gone. Me, I’m not sure if I’m bailing completely yet, but the show’s now on very thin probation with me.

High tides. Everywhere. All at once.

The episode tried to set up the moon's mysterious gaining of mass (at which point Dara was already going WHAT?!) as having impact on the tides on the planet, yeah. But then we got the characters on a beach down on Earth, where they could see the moon outright visibly disintegrating in the sky, and I noticed that between that happening and the magical re-appearance of a second moon (because WHAT?!), the waves rolling in to the beach seemed to not give a damn about the abrupt fluctuations in gravity from up there.

You can't HAVE high tides everywhere! The moon pulls in one direction, other half of the planet gets low tide! Gaaaaah.

Also, killing the creature, unhatched, would not do a damn thing to its mass.

Also, the "additional mass" figure they quoted (I forget what it was, at this point) was, like... six orders of magnitude smaller than it would need to be to give the moon earth-like gravity.

I can forgive scientific inaccuracy, but that's just outright lazy.

I know this show is supposed to be science fantasy at best, but there should be at least SOME consistency of what science it DOES have! And I'd like it to be at least in the neighborhood of actual science. o.O
