Hi all,

Dara and I wanted to communicate with everybody that in the last many months we have been highly, HIGHLY dissatisfied with the state of our Internet service at the Murkworks. The quality of service we’ve had has been extremely erratic; our bandwidth has been very unstable, and far too often we’ve been actively down. This cannot continue.

But in order to make informed decisions about what course of action to pursue to improve matters, we need to hear about who’s using the Murkworks resources regularly, and in what fashion. So if you’re doing anything regularly on our servers, please let us know.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Hosting personal or professional web pages, whether for yourself or an organization
  • A regularly maintained email account
  • An active mailing list
  • Primary or secondary DNS for domains
  • Using account space for a backup of personal files

So please check in, folks. It’s important for us to get a real sense of who’s actively using the system. Thanks!

I access the murk for one of the two housenets wherein I share news with friends dear to my heart. Downtime is more a dissappointment than a critical failure.

Oh, for what it's worth in planning, I'd be interested in running a backup professional webspace (say, a dozen or so screens of text and small photos) were such a facility available, as I am **very** dissatisfied with the trustworthiness and stability of the commercial services presently available to me. Would in any case much rather keep resources circulating closer to home within Cascadia, not to mention the unquantifiable but realisable benefit of dealing with known and trustworthy people.

Oh, my, my English **did** come out sideways, ne qua?

What I meant to say was that I was in mind of having a small amount of **my** content hosted, via **your** service, if such a facility came into being. I'm sick and tired of dealing with unreliable and opaque commercial services.

Grinning ruefully at my sucky Englishing today!

Edit to add: that my beloved lifemate is working hard to convince me to sidestep the Web altogether, but I fail to see any better way to maintain a decorously-obscure level of professional visibility.

I only use it as a back up tf host, though routinely debate making it my primary since my primary is far more unstable than Murk. :)

I'm still getting email notifications from the Murk...I think it's safe to take me off.

We don't want to take people off, we're just surveying what people do. Taking people off won't fix anything; it isn't a load issue, it's a Verizon and Pioneer suck donkey dick issue.

I'm all of those except the third and the last, I think.

Mostly nethack, these days :) I can't quite recall if you're a secondary DNS for my (sadly neglected) personal webpage, between LJ and Picasa that's fallen off my rader entirely. Only a couple non-critical backup files otherwise. (And, oh dear, a hacked index.html from 2004. *deletes*) So not actively using other than for gaming, but do appreciate having the account around.
