I have a Doctor Who THEORY

And I blame this on sleep deprivation after being up until 2:30am with last night’s release for work, but nonetheless, here you go, peeps!

Massive, MASSIVE spoilers for seasons 5 and 6 lie beyond the fold. Do not clickie if you are not caught up on Matt Smith’s Doctor episodes!

My theory is this:

River Song is Amy and Rory’s Schroedinger’s baby.

AND she’s the one who shoots the Doctor in this season’s opener.

Which is why she is in PRISON!

I had been suspecting she’s in fact fated to shoot the Doctor ever since she was reluctant to answer his question about who she killed. And the Schroedinger’s baby thing, if she were in fact conceived in the TARDIS, might tie in to River’s obvious comfort with time travel, not to mention seeming to know the TARDIS controls in some ways better than the Doctor does!

I will now accept arguments for and against. As well as more tea. Because zzzzzzz.

They're making it so damn obvious that the Doctor is who River killed, that I don't actually believe it. I think we are meant to think he's her victim, and it will actually be someone else.
As far as her being Amy's daughter, could be. The Doctor had better sort the yes/no pregnancy out before Amy starts showing; wouldn't that be an odd visual.
(The Doctor is monitoring it, so it's not Schrödinger-type uncertainty, which collapses as soon as you do observe it. It's only before you open the box that the cat is alive|dead.)

One thing I'm a little confused on is the back to front nature of River and the Doctor. We know for certain that the last time she meets him is the first time he meets her. But while mostly back to front I think it's not exactly that way, otherwise nothing in her diary would ever match his experiences. Plus she wouldn't really need it if it were truly and completely back to front.

Also given The Impossible Astronaut if that was indeed the Doctor on the shore then it has been established that they're not entirely on reverse schedule since that was after (for him) the first time she met him and they had events in common (things they both remembered doing together)

I don't see how the person River Song shoots could be anyone EXCEPT the Doctor - although there is that "so obvious it can't be" factor. I love the idea of her being Amy and Rory's baby...

I've been thinking about the question of obviousness and am not entirely sure that's a dealbreaker--on the grounds that it's obvious to us, since we're used to thinking in a fannish mindset and we can follow this sort of thing with ease. But if Moffat is aiming for the broader audience, that may still be the plan.

Dunno yet. We'll have to see!
