The Intarwebz are informing me today that he is apparently going to be in a remake of the 80’s TV show The Equalizer. My fangirly brain was dubious about this, and had the following conversation with itself:

Rational: Oh god not another remake!
Fangirly: But, but, but, RUSSELL! Shooting things!
Rational: But it’s ANOTHER REMAKE!
Fangirly: What part of RUSSELL SHOOTING THINGS are you not getting here?
Rational: This is yet another movie that’s standing between him and making a Master and Commander sequel.
Fangirly: …… well, you do have a point there.

I remember when The Equalizer was out, mind you, though I never watched it; I was too young to be its target audience at the time. Intellectually I can appreciate though that it seems like Russell would be a good match for the character. Wikipedia says the show was well-received and ran for four seasons, which matches my own vague recollection of it.

Anybody out there actually watch the show? If you did, what are your recollections of it?

I watched it...not regularly mind you.

Don't actually recall much about it except that it had an older star than most action shows of the time.

I imagine it's getting a second look because of the popularity of Burn Notice and Human Target (which have similar plot lines.)

My mom always watched that show. She liked Edward Woodward. So I saw it when I was around. It seems incredibly dated now, with some of its 80's feel. But it did have a fairly cool atmosphere to it at the time.

I liked it. It made it to Britain, and it was popular there too. Edward Woodward was awesome.

I don't like the idea of Crowe for the role. McCall was more of an ideas man than a muscle man, though he could and would fight physically if he had to. He was old and jaded - Woodward was 10 years older than Crowe is when the series began, and that's part of what made it different.

I sort of remember it, but I agree with [livejournal.com profile] tiggymalvern. Crowe's not right for the role. At all.

He's right for a lot of things (he would make the ideal Aral Vorkosigan, for one thing [g]), but not the Enforcer.

Oh, I'd go see it, too. But I suspect the movie won't have much in common with the TV show. Not that I was wedded to the TV show in the first place.

As for Crowe playing Aral, it was Aral's author who first said Crowe would be ideal for the part [g].

Crowe is definitely wrong for the part. Not old enough, too rough, yadda yadda. Unless of course they plan to make it nothing like the series at all, which is honestly what I would pretty much suspect is the case. ;)

I did and enjoyed it. I was more interested in his sidekick, Mickie. Mickie was played by Keith Szarabajka. 'Angel' fans will remember him as Daniel Holtz, the man who stole Angel's son.
