My word, I think I’m done
Jul. 5th, 2009 09:45 pmAll in all, not quite to the full 20K edited out, but I did make it down to 118K or so. So I’ll take this and run with it!
This means, folks, that Lament of the Dove’s fourth draft is now open for beta reading. As I’ve mentioned, I only need people to read through it and make sure that it holds together. In-depth proofreading is not required (although sure, if you see any typos or anything, call them out).
If at all possible I’d like to send the manuscript off to Ms. Fox by Monday of next week, so if you can read over the story this week, sing out. Throw me an email at my annathepiper gmail address, and let me know where I can send you the RTF to read. Thanks in advance, all!

erm - so i have to ask (to make sure) it is ok (or possibly good) to point out typos? because i have done beta reading for people who got really mad at me for correcting typos :( i was going to ask, and you just gave me a good chance - if you don't want correction, there will be no correction - if you don't care, or do want correction, there shall be correction :) i can do either (i just don't want someone mad at me for correcting typos again lol)
i can't wait to read it!

The major input I'm looking for here is "yes this works, ship it" or "no, this is weird to me, because of X or Y or Z". This is mostly because this is the fourth draft now and I've gotten it almost pretty much the way I want it, so I don't want to do any more extensive tinkering. ;)
That said, if you do see any typos, by all means, point them out. The ones

Date: 2009-07-07 08:13 am (UTC)(don't mind me, i is goofy on meds)
so, i will begin reading when i get up tomorrow (today was a bad day, another injection in my hip - but now i has another surgery scheduled for the end of August that [knock on wood] theoretically fixes it all). i shall fine-tooth it, but i have had to take many copy-editing classes, so it would be more effort to *not* notice than to notice :) i just would refrain from pointing out if you didn't want them - and since you do, everyone is happy.
i read really fast, so as long as Life does not interfere, i should be done by thursday night. if that is too long, i can re-work my scheduling to put this first (honestly, it's not like i'm *allowed* to work and i don't have classes right now, so if you need this really soon, let me know and i will do nothing but read it, starting when i wake up, or rather get the note :) i am so excited to read it! i can't justify buying your book as the cable bill is 29 days late (because roommates suck. at least, my thieving roommates suck) but i get to read this! and i am, quite literally, addicted to reading (it was solarbird's pimping of your novel that had me reading you LJ, as a matter of fact, because *FAE*!!!)
what did i say about pain meds? i honestly do not understand why i babble as much typing as i do speaking when i am on pain meds...

Date: 2009-07-07 09:50 pm (UTC)And heh, hope you like Lament; it's a different style of book than Faerie Blood is (Lament is third-person, with three POV characters; FB is first-person with a single viewpoint character. Lament is book 1 of a three-book story and does not conclude at the end of the book; FB is standalone. And, Lament is epic fantasy set in its own world while FB is urban set in the 'real' world), but it should at least introduce you to my writing and let you know whether you think you'll actually like FB or not!
Also, despite its differences from FB, Lament also has elves in it. ;)
No worries about pain meds either, been there, done that!
