But since the news is going around about Sup abruptly laying off a lot of LJ employees, I will say back up your journals.

What's a good backup method?

LJArchive and LJ-Sec, as mentioned (although not linked to) in my post.

Note that these are Windows tools so if you're on a non-Windows machine you may want to arrange with a trusted friend with a Windows box to do backups for you. I'm not currently aware of any non-Windows LJ backup tools.

You know, if they can develop journal filtering (or even a robust journal platform) for Facebook, we could all just migrate there. Facebook is becoming the 21st Century emacs anyway, so far as one-thing-that-does-it-all goes....

Eh, I daresay a lot of us are there already. And while Facebook does have the ability to let you post "Notes" as well as import external blog entries, it doesn't seem like blogging is a priority for them.

If LJ does actually go poof at some point I'll probably just finally give in and install Wordpress on murkworks.net.

Apparently there are several reports going round and 20 of 28 may be a bit exaggerated. 13 of 30 is another number mentioned.

Yeah, thanks for the additional link. I'm mostly sounding a cautionary note to remind folks to back up their journals. I see no evidence yet that LJ is about to explode, but it never hurts to have backups. :)
