There are rumblings that Drollerie Press will be having an online chat on December 18th to promote current and forthcoming releases. I mention this for two reasons:

One, three words: [livejournal.com profile] dr_pretentious and [livejournal.com profile] hyperbard and [livejournal.com profile] thunderpigeon. Also, various other people with whom I've become acquainted courtesy of the Drollerie authors list. Y'all should consider stopping by to say hi because these folks are cool and interesting like that. Watch the Drollerie blog (mirrored over here on LJ as [livejournal.com profile] drollerie) for more solid details as they happen. Or, y'know, you can watch here too. 'Cause I'll be posting them.

Two, there are rumors that ARCs of forthcoming releases may well be handed out. One particular ARC in which y'all may assume I have a vested interest may be making an appearance--if edits are indeed gotten through in time. [livejournal.com profile] serasempre brings to me rumors of potential requested edits gotten to me by Friday. There are also rumors of COVER ART.

So everybody keep an ear out. That sound of squee you may be hearing from my vicinity this weekend will be the sound of an author whose book is about to get a touch more Real.

speaking of edits, check your email for the answer to that question you asked me a while back.

And it's worth mentioning, serasempre's cover art is AMAZING.

Those who haven't already can see what I mean at

(and buy a book while you're there. . . you know you wannna.)

That said, though, if the first picture she sends doesn't work for you, she's also very responsive. The first cover pic for my book was beautiful, but the image didn't look like that character looked in my head, and I was also concerned that the picture and the title together were a bit too "high fantasy" and might mislead the reader. So I told her my concerns and made a couple of suggestions, and she came back with another piece that addressed all of my concerns and also blew me away.

Thanks! Not that I had anything to do with the cover besides making a few suggestions.

Then again, I just looked through to comment on which covers I liked best, and my favorites were both for the same author ("Every Word I Speak" and "The Chocolatier's Wife" by Cindy Lynn Speer), so maybe the writer does have something to do with it--setting the tone for the making of the art that sets the tone for the reading of the book. I don't know.

Oh, and speaking of don't know, in case anyone is following this thread and trying to figure out which book is mine, it's at:

Hope you don't mind my copping your blog to show off my book. It seemed germane to the discussion, and I'm not really sure what the etiquette is about such things. And I really do like the cover art.

I just approved the cover art for Atlantis Cranks, and it took us about half a dozen back-and-forths to get to a cover we were both really happy with. I was all worried that she'd think I was being a prima donna, but her last word on the process was, "I think we make a good team." The cover art for Closing Arguments was perfect on the first try, but we went back and forth several times about the typeface and color for the title and author name, and where to place those elements in relation to parts of the image. I had all kinds of questions through the process--different questions for the two books. Deena's been patient and forthcoming throughout.

I _always_ worry that Deena will think I'm a prima donna, but she always seems to have patience. Well, except for a couple of times when she hasn't, and then she followed up later with an explanation that the kids are sick, or she just stubbed her toe, or something. I suppose all this patience may be why she never seems to have time. Well, that and the thing about running a start-up publishing company when she has three kids to raise.

I'm very thankful for this, because, having gone years ago to a panel about the things a starting author should _never_ do, I'm finding now just how hard all those annoying things are to avoid when you're learning the ropes and trying to make your book look the best it can on deadline.

And hey--I finally uploaded my book cover as one of my user pix!

Cool! Thanks!

I just sent you a friends invite on Goodreads.

And I did a "compare books" and found that you are the first person on there whose tastes are 100% similar to mine. Which I find ironic, because the reason our tastes are 100% similar is that we gave the same ratings to the TWO books we have in common out of hundreds. Ah well. They really ought to find a way to account for what proportion of two readers' books are the same when they do those comparisons.
