A thought

solarbird and I have had the pleasure a couple of times now of jamming with stealthcello at her place. As part of that experience, Betsy graciously allowed me to handle her new guitar, a loverly loverly thing that's not much bigger than Rags, actually, yet which has an astonishingly full sound. It's got a carbon-fiber body and it's just generally gorgeous. It and its various cousins live here, specifically the Cargo model.

As I have already resolved to get myself a guitar capable of holding its own against fair and crowd noise if Dara and I busk at Folklife next summer, this particular guitar model is calling my name. VERY LOUDLY. Especially the green Cargo. But oh my ack the price tag.

I am flirting with the very silly idea of, on Faerie Blood's release date, issuing the challenge that if I sell enough copies of the book to buy me one of those guitars, I will post video of myself playing it. As a backup plan, I could aim lower for one of the less spectacularly pretty but nonetheless severely kickass Seagull guitars, after having seen both auntmonkey and radarrider play them.

What do you think, folks? Sound like fun?

And also what to play. And also the thought of giving whoever gets me the fastest proof of purchase a crack at naming the guitar.

another potential good idea. but i thought instruments were like pets - they come to you with truenames and it's up to you to discern what they are.

Oh, sure. This is why I'd be posting about what the instrument is like and giving the winner first crack at capturing that in a name!

I'd pay to see that. The Seagull is nice, but a CF guitar would RULE for busking. Especially with Blue Steel strings - cryo treated, very stable. :)

The sound tempts me but also the size. I very much like that it's described as weighing only four pounds, as part of it being an ideal stage guitar. This would also make it an ideal busking guitar.

And of course there would be the fun question of what to video myself playing!

Aaaaah. the power of Tony's big Taylor dreadnought in something the size of a light cruiser (to use the ship metaphor)... I see the appeal.

Something GBS-trad would be the obvious idea, although it has also occurred to me that something filky that I actually know wouldn't suck. Maybe something out of the Elfquest songbook.

Or, if anybody got ambitious and actually threw me a Faerie Blood filk, clearly I'd need to do that. ;)
