Har, his Wikipedia page says he has been the favorite of various bookies to be the next Doctor, although this is not yet confirmed.
I also note that he was in Blackpool, which was in fact recommended to me by casirafics just this past weekend, and which also had Tennant in it. Which would be amusing. ;)
It would be hysterical if they pulled in ASH, yeah. And he'd probably be an awesome Doctor. Though I'm dubious that they'd peg him just because he's getting on in years now, and it'd break the pattern of Younger Sexier Doctors established by Nine and Ten...
The BBC could surprise us all, but I bet that in this they won't. Having younger, sexier Doctors has done too much for their audience numbers. ;)
I'm just wondering if I can actually watch Tennant playing a creepy stalker guy. ;) (And I say this fully cognizant of his having played Barty Crouch in the last Harry Potter flick! But that was way less central a role.)
I'm aware of Atkinson, yeah, although I never did see his performance.
But I'm dubious that the BBC would go for it. The younger, sexier Doctor model with Nine and Ten has done huge wonders for their audience (she said, being an example of a fangirl who got pulled into the fold specifically because of Younger Cuter Romantic-er Doctors ;) ). So I'd be real surprised if they pulled in somebody without at least some potential sex appeal.
(Now, I'll also add that although I am a diehard Nine-and-Ten/Rose fangirl, it'll be nice if they dial down the whole 'Companions crushing on the Doctor' thing for a bit!)
I'm going to miss Tennant, no doubt, and would have LOVED to see a Tennat/Moffy season of awesome, but at least this gives the Moff a clean slate and fresh start. He has no companion or doctor to stay true to, though I almost wish he'd taken over the reigns with one or the other.
At least when we lost Nine, we got to keep Rose. And then we when got Martha and Donna, we still had Ten. Now we're starting completely from scratch (unless something AMAZING comes out of the Christmas specials--my vote, BRING DONNA BACK!!!). It'll be interesting to watch. I'm very, very excited.
It has indeed occurred to me that it is fitting to get a brand new Doctor with Moffat taking over the helm. We've cleaned out the slate with everything else, might as well make it a full sweep. ;)
It will be interesting to see what this means for the last of the Specials and whether we'll get a regeneration on camera.
Wah, I know. I'll miss him (badly), and I wish they'd had a run of the show with Ten and Moffat in charge.
(I think I'm taking it more calmly than I might otherwise, though, because my disappointment sort of got overlaid with feeling so freaking exasperated at certain fandom reactions that it all kind of leveled out. ;) We'll see how well I take it when the regen happens....)
Did you see the video of Tennant talking about his departure? Apparently Moffat taking over almost made him change his mind...
But alas, no, he stuck to his guns! Sniff! He also says in the video that he wanted to quit pretty much before he started feeling like it was a job. Which I totally respect.
And indeed, it will be interesting to see how they play the regeneration. Especially given (cannily avoiding going into details in case anybody's reading this who hasn't seen it yet) the tail end of Series 4. ;)
It is indeed sad and exciting at the same time! I'm very much willing to give the new guy a shot, whoever he'll be; I distinctly remember being so sad that we were going to lose Christopher Eccleston, and then boom, we got David.
As for Mr. Izzard, who is indeed made entirely of Fabulous and would be a very interesting Doctor, I doubt we'll get him. Isn't he busy doing his own show right now anyway?

Than again, if I'd seen Tennant in Secret Smile first, I wouldn't have thought he'd have pulled off the Doctor either. -.-
