It's been quite hot in the greater Seattle area the last couple of days. Not hot by the scale of the South or even the Midwest (at least not in Kenmore) but still pretty damned hot--and we've been having an air stagnation alert going on too, which only exacerbates the hot.

So I've been pretty wilty all day, as has [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, and also Fred; it's apparently too hot for kitties, too. He curled up by us on the couch and we noticed the little guy was panting. We sat him in a laundry basket next to an ice pack for a bit; that seemed to help. But we'll need to keep an eye on him.

Meanwhile, some random notes on recent events.

Work's actually been enjoyable lately, in no small part because I have taken it upon myself to write some PHP automation for testing some of our servers. I like PHP and had kind of forgotten that, not having had to do any of it since the last time I worked with my web pages.

Thank you email has already been sent, but public kudos must also be given to [livejournal.com profile] janne, who sent me a surprise Amazon package containing the Catherynne Valente book that was on my Wish List, as well as a DVD of Hercule Poirot stories. Thank you, Janne! <3

[livejournal.com profile] gerimaple and [livejournal.com profile] brightbeak were in town on Thursday night, and Dara and I met them for dinner at the Mexican restaurant in Pacific Place. Tasty food and enjoyable conversation was had by all, and moreover, our visitors presented us with samples of tasty vegan chocolate. Which is currently in the fridge, lest it melt in the hot.

[livejournal.com profile] mamishka and I finally went to go see the new X-Files movie on Wednesday night. While it was delightful as always to hang out with Meems, and specifically to spend a little time on the taiko drumming game at Gameworks, the movie was a wash. More on this to come in a subsequent post.

I have had another followup appointment with Dr. Towbin, who basically said I'm fine and that he's good with me proceeding with the reconstruction surgery next month. So Operation Rebuild Anna's Boobies is ON. The pre-op appointment with Dr. McMillan is scheduled for September 2nd, and the actual surgery, the 18th. I'll probably be out for another 2-3 week period, and I suspect three, since this will be a bit heavier-duty situation than the mastectomy was. We shall have to see how much work on Queen of Souls I can get done before my brain gets shot off the top of me again.

I have been steadily working through the music brought me by [livejournal.com profile] sksouth for my amusement during my last recovery period, and so far have decided that of all the albums in question, Angelique Kidjo, Habib Koite, and the Bill Hilly Band will be artists whose albums I will seek out for purchase. I've already bought some Billy Bragg. Cordelia's Dad isn't really to my taste, but it'll be interesting to see if I like this other Gaelic Storm album.

I am working on reading [livejournal.com profile] desperance's The Samaritan, finally. Interesting reading, so far!

And I went OH RIGHT and remembered that I actually have a USB fan thingie that I can use to cool the bottom of my laptop. I haven't used this thing in quite some time, but today? It's very helpful.

Gosh, it's hot.
