Can any Panther users repro this?

A user has reported to our webmaster that he's having trouble with Safari on Mac OS 10.3.9 frequently crashing when he visits pages on our site. We can't repro this; all our QA Macs are running 10.4 or 10.5, and all our versions of Safari are 3.1.

Any Mac users on my Friends list still on Panther? If so, can you repro this problem? The user gave this link as an example of one that caused him the problem.

If you can repro this, please to let me know what version of Safari you're running, and what error messages if any you see. A screenshot would be ideal.

I can check when I get home. I have Panther on my computer there (stuck on XP at work, blah).

Thanks! I suspect this may simply be a question of Safari 1 (the version Panther had) being just too old and unstable. I remember solarbird having issues with it in general. I've already told our webmaster to encourage the user to try Firefox if upgrading his OS isn't an option, but it'll be nice to know for sure whether Safari 1 is the culprit here. I can't repro it in Safari 3, that's for sure.

Likewise I'm pretty sure my G4 is running Panther, but I can't check it till I get home from work.

No rush! This is not a high priority problem since Safari is only a tiny portion of our traffic anyway--and it's a known issue as well that Safari 1.x was just an unstable mess in general. I've already had our webmaster recommend to the user that he consider using the latest version of Firefox if upgrading his OS isn't an option.

But it'll be nice to know at some point if indeed Safari 1.x is the culprit here. If you get a chance to poke at it, nifty; otherwise, no worries! Thanks!

Just a guess, but the problem could easily be the version of Flash rather than Safari.

Eh, my money's currently on an older version of Safari just because I already know that the earliest versions of Safari were documentedly unstable. solarbird, who did use Panther at one point, had a lot of trouble with it being cranky about several of the sites she liked to visit on a regular basis. It's gotten much better in subsequent versions, but. I've already had our webmaster recommend to the user that he consider switching over to the latest version of Firefox if upgrading his OS isn't an option.

We'll see what happens, anyway. :)
