And congratulations, [livejournal.com profile] naominovik, you've made the short list of people I'll actually buy in hardcover. Mostly because I just CANNOT wait another year to find out how Laurence gets out of the cliffhanger at the end of Book Four. ;)

So yeah, I picked up Victory of Eagles in shiny hardcover form tonight, and it will be bubbling up to the top of the stack of Things I'm Reading Next.

But it'll have to wait until I'm done with [livejournal.com profile] desperance's Bridge of Dreams, into which I've gotten about a couple hundred pages, and I'm too far in to bail now!

For general reference, the other three people I'll actually consider buying in hardcover are [livejournal.com profile] jimbutcher, Julie Czerneda, and Elizabeth Peters. Because I'm also testy about being behind a year on the Dresden Files, and Elizabeth Peters is putting out the first Vicky Bliss book in ages this summer, and I'm not really willing to wait for that, either. But at least Julie Czerneda's latest will be out in paperback this September.

Also fighting for my attention through the rest of the summer: things by [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine, Charles Stross, John Scalzi, [livejournal.com profile] matociquala, and [livejournal.com profile] mevennen. I'm feeling like I ought to go through my To Read shelf and clear out all the books by people whose LJs or blogs I'm reading! And local authors as well, which'll bring Kat Richardson, Mario Acevedo, and Caitlin Kittredge high onto the queue. Also, more [livejournal.com profile] cmpriest.

Also: I totally need a decent Temeraire icon.

I too succumbed to the hardcover siren today, nabbing Elizabeth Moon's latest Vatta book...

On a slightly different but related note, at work last night, I noticed that the first two of Christopher Paolini's Inheritance trilogy Eragon and Eldest came out in a combined cover. On the front was a release date of the third book of September 20. The title of the third book is Brisinger.

I've resorted to the library. I just can't afford all the new hardcovers I want so desperately! :D
