This just in: HOLY CRAP Elfquest movie!

If y'all haven't seen this already, check it out: an Elfquest movie is finally coming! Wendy and Richard Pini are breaking the news on Elfquest.com today.

The interesting bit for me in Wendy's post is the "combination of CGI and live action". Man, I hope they don't screw that up. If they have the budget to pull off the same clever tricks that Peter Jackson did in LOTR, they could get away with live actors playing the elves.

Which, of course, raises the fun question of who will be playing whom. The floor is now open for casting calls!

Whee! I nominate Tilda Swinton for.. uh, all of them, really. Most elfin face around :)
And I'm sufficiently ruined by mizkit playing Ember on twomoons that I'm sort of seeing Anna Paquin as Ember. Ehehehe.

I'm with you on Swinton. And Cate Blanchett. Put them together and they could play all the boy and all the girl elves (a la the Dylan pic "I'm not there"). It'd be excellent. Or something.

Also: I'll believe it when I see it. ^.^

It was the general consensus of the inhabitants of the MurkMUSH that Cate Blanchett should definitely play Timmain, assuming they give us a story that goes all the way into Book Four.

Failing that, and failing finding someone of suitable dark coloration, I'd cast her as Savah.

We also decided David Bowie should play Voll. He's old enough now!

As we got into on the MUSH, oh my yes Tilda Swinton should be in this cast. Preferably as Winnowill.

Re: Anna Paquin... hrmm. Yeah, I could totally see her as Ember, though she'd require a suitable makeup job. Though whether or not we'll need an Ember in the cast will depend on what story they give us! If they give us oh, say, Book 1, I'd put some serious thought into casting her as Nightfall.

What few know is that I've been following EQ since '85, and at one point was a "rabid" fan. I still have a copy of the "Video Comic book" that came out in the early 90s. *shudder* I saw that and had flashbacks to the 1960's Marvel comics cartoons.

It's a little hard for me to get excited (yet) since, well, they've been talking about a movie for ages. Seriously, I had a full run of the original magazines from the 70s, and there was talk of a movie in the letter pages even then. So I'm not going to hold my breath. However, this is promising news. I'd always hoped to see EQ on the big screen. Maybe I'm one step closer to getting that wish. :)

Oh yeah, I know, there's been talk of a movie certainly for as long as I've been in the fandom. But this seems promising indeed and a bit farther along. So here's hoping we actually get a movie this time, and that it doesn't suck! :)

Much will depend upon the budget they have available, and the script. I'm hoping they keep it simple and maybe just focus on Book 1 as a story. Which would after all be a lovely introduction to a shiny new franchise of movies. ;)

Oh, squee! Second reaction after the delight was, "The visuals will probably be completely messed up," but then, Watchmen looks (visually, that is) terrible and I'm excited anyway. And! ElfQuest! Onscreen!

Agreeing with everybody who's talking about Cate Blanchett, and I would also like to suggest Ellen Paige for a roll. I know she's quite trendy right now, but she definitely has the right face-shape for an elf.

Not familiar with Ellen Paige! *looks up* Oh okay, the girl in Juno. Yeah, she's got a good facial structure for this purpose. She'd be good for a quick Foxfur cameo, maybe, if they do the Howl scene from Book 1. Alternately... hrmm. Maybe Kahvi's daughter, Vaya!
