So there I am tonight, burning through the last several episodes of the season 2 X-Files DVD set so thoughtfully purchased for me by [livejournal.com profile] risu, when I realize that the season closer is missing from the final DVD.

I zoomed up to Amazon to look this up, and found that the Slim Set package for Season 2 apparently has had this problem reported by other users. One even reported that Amazon tried to send them a replacement, but that the replacement was also missing the final episode. To wit, ARGH!

I have flung them a customer service email to ask them WTF, and in the meantime at least got caught up through the second to the last episode. Any of y'all out there who don't already have X-Files on DVD, keep an eye out for this; the slim sets are nice because of minimal packaging and lower price, but this missing episode is annoying. Grr.

If you happen to get your hands on any of the series from Showtime (Dexter, Sleeper Cell, etc) let me know if you notice the same thing I have: horrible, horrible pixelation that looks like they burned the DVDs straight off of a wonky satellite feed. When it happened with Dexter, I figured Netflix had just sent me a bad DVD, but it was that way for all of them, and then when it AGAIN happened with Sleeper Cell, well... bad production, aholes.

We just borrowed the Dexter DVD set from my folks, and it seemed OK to me.

P bought the series recently so I'll have to look at it again. The ones I saw came from Netflix... maybe they put out a different production for rental.

What was really funny was the copy of "Hannibal Rising" that I got from Netflix. After the usual "OMG FBI WARNING" bit, another warning came up that read "THIS DVD FOR SALE ONLY". Ooops.

Well, considering that both "Dexter" and "Sleeper Cell" were multiple discs with the same annoying pixelation, I'm blaming different production values for rental vs. sale.

I liked it. It's very quirky and dark, but funny in a silly-sadistic way. It took probably 3 episodes to grow on me. But remember, I get nightmares from particularly scary trailers. I close my eyes on the scary-blood-parts.

It's good. Dark but sarcastic and sadistically funny. It took me probably 3 episodes to sort out that I liked it. But I'm a big baby too about these things.

BTW I have season 3 and 4, and maybe 5. If you're interested in borrowing.
