Post-Masquerade Norwescon liveblogging
Mar. 22nd, 2008 10:20 pmOf the Masquerade costumes, my favorite hands down was "A Night in the Science Fiction Museum", with a trio doing the schtick of the new guard on his first night of duty and the exhibits that come to life: the sexy military space babe, and the big bug-eyed monster. The bug-eyed monster was excellent, as was the guard's lollipop-based strategy for how to propitiate him. ;)
Kudos must also go to barbarian guy Wo-Tan the Wall, less for his costume and more for his roared rant of all the things he hates... except for women wearing leather. Hee. There was an amusing "The Valkyries Ride Again" skit with an entirely new WoW-based interpretation of the death of a hero. A skit about a magic mirror had the concept of a character (presumably from a series but I didn't recognize the description) who's exploring a haunted house and nearly gets drawn in by the entity in the mirror; the best touch of this was the entity's hand lashing out through the curtain after the girl pushes it back into the "mirror" on the stage. Well done, that. And, for next biggest laugh, there was the "Mime-Away" group skit involving a service that offers to eliminate infestations of mimes from your festival.
Dara got pics and I think a little bit of video, so hopefully she'll be able to post those!
The movie trailers during the half-time were mostly not a surprise--though I hadn't yet seen the full Prince Caspian trailer. We got multiple versions of an Iron Man trailer, as well as Speed Racer, Wall-E, The Dark Knight, and of course, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indy, satisfyingly, got a huge cheer from the audience.
In the realm of "buh huh what?" we're apparently getting a new Incredible Hulk flick. I'm not sure what I think about this. The trailer didn't move me much, and the only thing that might make me the slightest bit interested in this thing is that Edward Norton is playing Bruce Banner.
And we even got to see a bit of a bootleg teaser for the forthcoming X-Files film--mostly amusing because of the outburst of audience squee you could hear in the recording. ;) I don't have nearly the level of Mulder fandom that I have in years past, but I have to admit... a tiny bit of me is looking forward to this flick.
