Looks like
spazzkat and I are going to be hanging out a while longer in the lobby, while
solarbird gets a sorely needed massage. Not too much else to do until the Masquerade doors open at 7:30, and while Dara may yet have to bail on that since she's feeling poorly (stupid plague), they're showing the obligatory Movie Previews as the Masquerade Half-Time entertainment. Looking forward to that. Especially the part where they'll no doubt have an Indy IV trailer.
More costumes spotted: the Joker; dude done up in a Street Fighter costume that Paul recognized, though I didn't know the character (this was a character with wildly sticky-uppy red hair); a full-body bright red costume of a critter that looked like it probably comes from Pokemon but which I didn't otherwise recognize (it was something fox-like, with multiple tails); and oh yes, I forgot to mention that I spotted a likely succubus earlier, a chick with the traditional big ol' black and red bat wings and all. And oh yes: another chick in a very cool Twi'lek costume, complete with full-body dark blue body paint. And, the Rocketeer, another movie I haven't seen in ages and which is probably worth another watch.
Hopefully by the next con I attend, I'll actually have an iPhone or some other device with which I can take pictures of all these nifty costumes. ;)
Have also run into
prettyshrub at the Browncoat table, though I am sheepish to admit that it took me a few minutes to recognize her (sorry about that,
prettyshrub! *^_^*;;), and I had to tell her and her compatriot at the table about the Persephone Pickers album I'd spotted on iTunes. They were grateful to hear about it. I asked them in exchange whether the enhanced edition of Serenity is worth owning a second copy, and with all the nifty extras on it, I have to admit I'm tempted.
Also worth mentioning: while I miss the Nice Restaurant that this hotel used to have, the new casual sports-lounge-y layout of the bar area isn't bad. And the dude who waited our table last night was showing impressive fortitude with a tough crowd of fans to work. We tipped him very well. And! They had a group playing live music in the bar area later on last night as well, which surprised me. Cool.
We caught parts of Shaun of the Dead on the con channels on the TV in our room; I'd forgotten that Shaun's mum in that movie is played by the same woman who brings us "Harriet Jones, Prime Minister!" in Doctor Who. Hee. And we caught snippets of Peter Jackson's King Kong while channelsurfing, which helpfully reminded me that I really need to watch that again on the grounds that Mmmmm Adrian Brody.
However, I can do without my room key malfunctioning on me.
