Georgia LJ roll call
Mar. 14th, 2008 11:35 pmI just found out about the tornado that smacked downtown Atlanta upside the head tonight. Yowza. Georgians on my Friends list, or those with kith and kin down there, hope you guys are okay!
That there is a cnn.com story up about this is noteworthy because I had not realized that cnn.com is in fact headquartered in Atlanta. Their building sustained some damage, including getting a hole ripped in the roof, and their newsroom and library took some hits as well.
I'm also whomperjawed about the roof getting ripped into at the Georgia Dome--during a game. And impressed that the game was actually resumed about an hour after everything settled down. But then, as my beloved
solarbird points out, I am from Kentucky; I know the reverence held for basketball down there. Not even ACTS OF GOD will halt SEC tournament basketball, boyos!

Date: 2008-03-15 06:57 am (UTC)Windows also were shattered in the CNN.com newsroom, with staffers saying that there was a computer missing -- apparently sucked through one of the windows.
-- was, "Why is it always the dot-commers?" (Remind me to tell you about my former news employers and the anthrax incident sometime.)
Considering the extent of the damage I'm hearing about at that nearby apartment building in particular, I'm hoping things don't turn out as bad as they sound. :\
As for basketball and crazy-ass weather, though, I'd also like to remind you that you live in the only city that's ever had a rained-out NBA game (http://www.historylink.org/essays/output.cfm?file_id=7860). Oh, Seattle....

Date: 2008-03-16 12:33 am (UTC)And now I heard today that they got hit with further storm fun down there. As if one big storm per weekend wasn't enough. Yeeg.
As for here and the NBA game getting rained out, *snorf*, I don't think I'd heard about that; that's hysterical. Only HERE!

Date: 2008-03-16 02:16 am (UTC)(That, and I'm still paranoid about naming anywhere I work/have worked on LJ. I'm pretty sure at this point it doesn't MATTER, but y'know. :)

Date: 2008-03-16 05:30 am (UTC)After that, though, I'll hopefully be quite flexible schedule-wise. Things are getting less crazy at work now that we have launched the Monster Site Upgrade, so I should be able to scamper off for a lunch some time in the next few weeks. :) I'll look forward to seeing you!
