And now, a Very Important Critical Vital question!

As I exulted in my previous post, thanks to my beloved solarbird and the made-entirely-of-Awesome spazzkat, my holiday present this year is going to be a shiny new (well, a shiny newly refurbished!) MacBook! Keeping in mind that a) it will be a black computer, b) Dara and I have a tradition of naming computers after Elfquest characters and objects, and c) who my various and sundry objets d'fandom affection are at the moment, I need some help picking out a good name for the box!

"Elvis" is disqualified on the grounds that my very first computer was named Elvis. Also disqualified are "Aron" (Elvis' middle name), "Garon" (the middle name of Elvis' twin brother), and "Newstar" (my current Windows laptop).

ETA 1:13pm: To address a few remarks noted in poll answers and comments, names of actual living persons are also disqualified, which counts out 'Alan', 'Doyle', 'Russell', 'Crowe', 'Harrison', 'Ford', and any other portions of names of persons over whom I have been known to swoon.

Other names which have come up in the comments or elsewhere which are of potential interest: 'Rayek', 'Ororo', 'Zoe', 'Martha', and 'Zuko' (as in, the prince in Avatar: The Last Airbender). If there is enough interest in any of these names I may do a second poll!

Solo. Because you'll be solo, i.e. alone if any problems with this thing arise... Or go to service. But there are not too much that could be advised with Mac's mlfunctions... and compatibility issues.

Compatibility is not a worry for me. The only thing I'll need it to do where compatibility might be a question, really, is saving things I write in a format compatible with potential agents and publishers. I intend to address this by installing OpenOffice, which saves out in Microsoft Word as well as RTF format. :)

Also, I am totally not worried about any potential problems. spazzkat, solarbird, and I are all technically inclined, and they've used the Macs they already have with great success. If mine throws anything at me, I'm fairly confident I'll be able to deal.

That's great if you're able. But speaking of comptibility I meant first of all not formats but hardware. E.g. Macs are not nice with several models of wireless Access Points. And will yo be able to manually set stuff like channel, or serch frequency? There are lot of things that are possible in shell. But not in GUI.

One of solarbird's earliest computers was named Rayek, it turns out, but she says that since that computer was never on the Net (and can't be, since it's a C128), she considers the name open. So yes, in theory, the box could be named Rayek!

And the idea of slapping XP on the box just so I can name it Two-Edge makes me laugh and laugh and laugh. But it also makes spazzkat cringe every time I mention it! ;) I think much will depend on how much I'll miss the few Windows-only games I have on my current system.

...I have run into far - far - more problems getting XP machines onto wireless access points than I have with any OSX box of any flavour. Particularly if anything more complicated than WEP is involved. What behaviour am I not seeing?

Really, since the C128 was a triple-boot dual-processor machine out of the box - Commodore 64 perfect emulation, Commodore 128 native mode, CP/M 3.0 native mode - I'd need to call it, I dunno, Three-edge or something.
