Halloween surgery and sucky movies time!

Dr. Towbin's office called me at lunch this afternoon to follow up as per my request, and tell me what gets to happen next. The nurse I spoke with tried to tell me that I needed to "do some soul-searching" about what route I wanted to take--mastectomy vs. conservation/radiation--and I assured her I'd already made that decision. So now I'm scheduled to go in for a pre-op appointment on the 29th to discuss the game plan. The 31st will be Surgery Day, at which point the cleany-uppy things I've mentioned before will be taken care of all at the same time.

They've recommended that I take two days to recover, so I'll arrange to take the 1st and the 2nd of November off. Which means I'll be out of commission for less time than for each of my thyroid surgeries (which is a bit weird to me, but hey!), and which means I'll have me a five-day weekend.

And what this means is: MOVIE SUCKOFF TIME, baby! The floor is now open for suggestions as to appropriate movies to skewer. No movie too awful! No Sci-Fi Pictures Original too goofy! Remember, people, I'm going to be on painkillers. Hit me with your best shots!

Any of the old biker movies. They are so bad it's hilarious!! Wild Hogs is in the same category.

So, what are you planning?

Radiation isn't bad at all. You go in every day, but it only takes a few minutes. I was in and out in 10 minutes every day. I didn't feel any great fatigue from it, but others have said it makes them tired.

Planning for immediate surgery recovery, or for the radiation plan?

I'll have to meet again with my radiation oncologist to set up the treatment plan, but I am going to aim for doing it after work. Hopefully that plan won't get disrupted too much. :)

Have you ever seen any Mystery Science Theater 3000, Anna? It's AWESOME! Nothing like mocking bad movies, many of them sci-fi/horror! Try MST3K:The Movie for some awesome yuk-yuks (they mock 'This Island Earth', which is pretty good, but still...)

As for bad movies, try Texas Chainsaw Massacre 4, The Mole People, The Atomic Brain, Manos:The Hands of Fate, Pod People, The Beginning of the End, The Brain the Wouldn't Die, The Crawling Hand. (Did I mention these bad movies are also MST-ied? Heh!)

Oh wow, hiya! I saw you show up on my list of people who'd Friended my journal, but couldn't figure out who you might be! Glad to see you around these parts.

And I'm all over MST3K, yeah; we were fans of MST3K in my house all throughout its run, and we've got a lot of it on tape. But for purposes of a proper Murkworks Movie Suckoff, that won't count since it's all stuff we've seen already. To do it properly, we need a theatrical release and a Sci-Fi Pictures Original that we haven't seen yet. ;>

Mystery Science is the BEST way to go. For sure. Another fantastic old cheesy sci-fi movie is Bad Taste (http://imdb.com/title/tt0092610/) which is one of the earliest Peter Jackson movies.

Other good bad movies are The Pirate Movie and Weasels Rip My Flesh.

Oh, I've got plenty of MST3K on hand. We've got all of season 1 on tape, and random selections of later movies as well.

But! For purposes of the Murkworks Movie Suckoff, that's kind of cheating--since I've seen all of MST3K, anyway. The idea with a Murkworks Movie Suckoff is to watch things we haven't watched yet and issue a verdict on which one is worse. Previous Suckoffs have featured Battlefield Earth and On Deadly Ground, for example, each of which were matched up against a Sci-Fi Pictures Original. ;)

Dance of the Vampires! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0061655/) I saw it late one New Years Eve and thought it was hysterically funny, though I was obviously non-sober and sleep-deprived at the time, and it may just have been bad-awful (though it scores surprisingly well at imdb).

Must watch it again sometimes myself and form an uninfluenced opinion....

Some of these I have seen! Hell, we have Logan's Run on laser. And we had The Omega Man in on Netflix not too long ago. And I know I've seen Black Hole, though it's been ages.

I prefer to think of it as an Important Cultural Milestone. (it was also the second movie I ever saw (*) so I may have a bit of a soft spot for it). I also strongly suspect it's one of those movies that will make a lot more sense while on drugs.

Five different directors and none of them talked to each other.

Think of it as a feature length version of the Last Episode of the Prisoner, but with Peter Sellers instead of Patrick McGoohan, a less coherent plot, more jokes, and an awesome Herb Alpert soundtrack.

stickmaker, my and Dara's friend from Kentucky who hangs out and chats with us on the Murkworks MUSH, really likes that movie. And I think I've caught at least a few snippets of it. I'll have to see it if I get a chance, if nothing else for the giggle value. :)
