Strikethrough II: Son of Strikethrough

As I'm sure many of you know already, we appear to be in the middle of Round Two of the Great Livejournal Kerfuffle of 2007. This is, I must admit, getting rather wearisome. I'm not yet prepared to scamper off across the Internetz in search of a new journaling home--but I'm now to the point that I'm making placeholder accounts on some of the other LJ-clones to keep track of those of you who may be choosing to pack up and take your toys elsewhere.
I am now also annathepiper on InsaneJournal and GreatestJournal. Any of y'all over on those places, feel free to Friend me there. Anybody on the Friends list have a JournalFen account with some spare invite codes lying around? I wouldn't mind having an account there either.
In the meantime,
solarbird and I will be looking at installing the LJ codebase on the Murk, since it's open source. We don't know if this will work yet; if it does, I may eventually make that my primary journal and mirror it out to the other LJ-based sites. More on this as it happens. Until then, things will be business as usual around here. Hang in there, everybody, and try not to let this sour your weekends too badly!

Date: 2007-08-04 01:46 am (UTC)Mind you, I ain't actually leaving LJ right now--it's mostly just that a lot of folks felt very ardently about it when SixApart did Round One of this earlier this year, and I'm expecting that since this makes Round Two, one or more of my Friends list may be opting to vote with their feet.
Also, see Dara's post.

Date: 2007-08-04 04:37 am (UTC)Oh, and by the way. I've got a perfectly good dual-550MhZ server sitting around that if we wanted to get fancy, we could stuff in a colo somewhere.... and I have a couple ideas for colos, depending on how fancy we wanted to get there.

Date: 2007-08-04 04:58 am (UTC)We don't actually know yet if the server we'd plunk the code on has the memory to run it yet; we need to investigate the matter some more. And just so we're clear on our intentions, we'd mostly be seeing this as a journal base for people we personally know (in which category you personally certainly do qualify ^_^) as opposed to a general open journaling site.
But I do very much like the idea of a network of related journaling sites. It'd be neat if, say, I were on InsaneJournal and I wanted to Friend somebody on Greatest, or Live, or whatever. The OpenID system is great for logging in and dropping comments on journals all over the place, but it's not a solution if you want to aggregate Friends lists from multiple sites!
