Doctor Who 29.11: "Utopia"
Jun. 22nd, 2007 08:18 pmIn honor of the Murkworks finally watching this last episode of Doctor Who, I have snarfed another loverly Ten icon--this time from
casirafics, who is in posession of some truly mighty Ten-ogling fu.
Whole lot of interesting fun in this episode--especially if you are at all familiar with things that happened in Doctor continuity before Nine ever showed up on the scene!
Wow. This one really did start off at top speed right out of the gate, didn't it?
HI JACK! Long time no see! I really rather liked his "Doctor detector". *chortle* And I wonder how long it took him to get to the hand after Ten had it cut off in the first place. I'm sure there's an entertaining little bit of fanfic to be had with that. And it was good to see that Jack's still hitting right and left on anything that moves, female, male, alien, as long as it has a pulse. ;)
Not quite the way I was expecting to have Martha get all the Rose backstory, but then, it did rather work for me that the Doctor told all of this to Jack. I wonder if he knows Martha heard it all.
Not sure if the "Futurekind" work for me, though. Having just recently seen Fourth Doctor in "Genesis of the Daleks", the idea of one species being aware it's going to eventually mutate into another that's right there beside it does seem rather familiar. It didn't work for me in "Genesis of the Daleks", though, and it doesn't work for me here either. Not enough justification for why the hell humanity (or back in "Genesis of the Daleks", the Kaleds) isn't doing everything in its power to avoid turning into the clearly more disturbing species. O.o
Also, how about that "Utopia" thing, then? What exactly is going to happen to these survivors in the rocket when the end of the universe happens? Are they going to go splody? Is one of their last survivors going to turn into the next universe's Galactus? ;)
But all of this, really, is really rather second fiddle to ZOMG THE MASTER IS BACK.
First words out of
spazzkat's mouth in regards to that were "They have some 'splainin' to do!" Now, my Doctor fu pales hugely in comparison to Paul's, but I do know enough at this point to know that the Master has been on his so-called "final regeneration" since Fourth Doctor. He's been tossed into the Eye of Harmony twice, the last time by Eight, and there's a huge, huge what-the-fucking-fuck?! going on here since as far as I know, we have nothing in the canon since Eight's movie that dealt with the Master at all. Very, very interesting question there as to what the fuck happened to him, how he survived the Time War, and everything.
I don't know if the Master shows up at all in any of Eight's novels--I'll have to doublecheck. But it may be that this is a huge question to be filled in now that he's back on camera again. And oh god, that was neat to watch. That look on Ten's face when the "Professor" got his watch open finally--man. Ten knew. He looked absolutely stricken. And even more so when the sunuvabitch took off with the TARDIS, too. Well played. :D
And I'd wondered if Saxon was going to be the Master, too. Muahahahaha.
Next episode's going to be very fun indeed. And we're thinkin', the Doctor's going to jumpstart that little doohickey on Jack's wrist to get them back to where they belong. Very anxious to see what happens next. :D

Date: 2007-06-23 03:56 am (UTC)God, the Master. NOBODY EXPECTS THE MASTER!!! <-very lame Python reference
I am SURE they're gonna fix that thing to get back. But I really hope he's nicer to Jack, because it was kinda mean to tell him he's "wrong"!
Have you seen this?
