The rule I have learned of the current Doctor Who episodes is this: Russell T. Davies writes all the best ones. He was not the writer for the pair of "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks"... mostly meh, though it had some good bits. Nor did he write "The Lazarus Experiment", though this one was better than the two-parter, and had some interesting bits.
Well, okay, I do have to admit that the last three episodes have definitely fueled my affection for Martha's increasing Doctor-crush, coupled with his being mostly oblivious--though he's clearly warming to the idea of having her around. (My brain keeps trying to make me write drabbles about it, actually. It needs to stop that, I've got other writing to do!) And I'm most definitely grooving on Martha. I do miss Rose, I went back and watched a few of her episodes, but I'm liking me some Martha too. ^_^
And zomg, Doctor in a Tux. Tux with sneakers. And his reaction to being called a science geek... and Martha telling him he looked all James Bond-y... hee!
Martha's family: interesting, and a nice contrast to Rose's little trio of herself, Jackie, and Mickey. Martha's family is clearly more well-off, and her mother? Actively snooty. Not to mention a bit disturbingly prone to thinking the worst of her daughter, if she's ready to take a stranger's word about Martha's new male acquaintance over Martha's own.
Last but not least... Harold Saxon. Innnnnteresting. I have heard the rumblings that he is an Important Plot Point. Wonder exactly what's up with him. Anybody besides me placing bets that he might be the Master? The Face of Boe did say that the Doctor is not alone....

Date: 2007-05-17 02:15 am (UTC)I've only seen the first Torchwood ep, yes. Unlike many Doctor fangirls of my acquaintance, Captain Jack doesn't actually do much for me--I like him a lot better as a rogue figure played off against the Doctor as authority figure. But I am curious as to how the rest of the first Torchwood series played out. :)

Date: 2007-05-17 02:27 am (UTC)Plus, that's not really an image you want to be showing to someone who's seen way too much of the Tick, too. I suspect that Tick voiceovers were not quite the thing they had in mind with the top-of-buildings shots. ;)
