And now, Friday evening fangirlishness
May. 4th, 2007 06:24 pmI have come to the conclusion that since Tenth Doctor has been labeled the Geek Doctor (at least around the Murkworks), he is clearly the Doctor of Choice for we, the proud members of Dork Nation. This requires an appropriate icon. Suggestions are heretofore solicited for best possible Tenth Doctor icon to bear the caption "Proud member of Dork Nation"!
With this in mind, I now also bring you these various items with which I intend to build up my credit as an official Tenth Doctor fangirling dork:
spazzkat provides this Bob the Angry Flower strip, in which Bob demonstrates that he too is a Doctor fandork.
The BBC's official Doctor site has a boatload of wallpapers you can download, and one of them, of Ten standing in the doorway of the TARDIS, has become my current ogle pic loaded into my browser. It has ousted Great Big Sea pics, people. Do you know how hard a pic has to work to knock Alan Doyle farther down my ogle queue?
In an effort to improve my classic Doctor fangirl cred as well, I have been reading all the Doctor Who quotes up on wikiquote.org. There are some choice ones scattered all over the older Doctors. I particularly like this one for Second Doctor, which demonstrates that hey, Two was a bit of a bastard, wasn't he? ;)
A few days ago I picked up the new Doctor Who soundtrack, which covers choice tracks from both Nine's series as well as the first series of Ten. There's a whole lot of instrumental goodness all over this thing, as well as a couple of not half-bad vocal tracks--"Song for Ten", which plays when Ten is picking out his new outfit in the TARDIS, and "Love Don't Roam", which is playing during the reception scene in "Smith and Jones". Also, there's a really cool long version of the theme as the very last track. I still music-geekishly swoon over hearing the theme played by a full orchestra every time we watch an episode, but the long version? Cooler. Listen for the bits towards the end of the track where the trumpets are taking up the theme, bright and clear and ringing. Very cool indeed.
Also, the album's available for purchase on the iTunes music store, but get a physical CD if you can, since the liner notes do have neat photos as well as little bits of commentary from Murray Gold, the composer, for all the various tracks.
Last but not least, also in the theme of Doctor Who icons, I must direct you to this little gem belonging to

Date: 2007-05-05 02:45 am (UTC)I have seen quite a large collection of icons all over the place, indeed, and several communities devoted to Who icons of various flavors, both current and classic!

Date: 2007-05-05 04:45 am (UTC)Aha, someone else has demonstrated that The Doyle can be outranked under certain circumstances. OK, now I don't feel like quite so much of a traitor :) Speaking of my treason, History Channel Canada is selectively Season 3 of DFT *bounce*. However, I still need the tapes from you because otherwise I only get 1/2 to 2/3 of the episodes. HCC keeps messing with their broadcast schedule, though so far my PVR is keeping up.

Date: 2007-05-05 03:42 pm (UTC)Doctor Two, in spite of bearing the label of cosmic hobo, often gave hints of a very sinister, ruthless air. Just flashes which were revealed in certain situations. You got the impression that the whole "Oh, my dear Aunt Polly!" thing was just a facade he used to make interaction with mere humans easier, and to fool the villains.
What made him a hero was that these flashes were most often revealed when a friend or innocent was in danger. "Yes, Jamie, I think we shall definitely take a closer look at what the renowned Professor is actually up to." With an expression and tone of voice which must have given said Professor a puzzling shiver.
