So after the last month or so that's involved a big ol' snowstorm and an even bigger windstorm, I must grant that freezing fog is kind of anticlimactic. However, it means that the little bit of street right in front of our house is almost completely covered in ice. This caused me quite a bit of consternation coming out of the house this morning, since it meant I had to step over into the neighbor's yard to get to somewhere that actually had enough traction for me to make it down to the clear cross street without falling flat on my ass.

I was not quite so lucky coming home this evening. I thought (rashly) that if I inched my way up the hill I could make it to the house. This thought was quickly dashed as I found myself sliding backwards without even trying to walk. [livejournal.com profile] solarbird, who was with me at the time, quickly advised me not to lock my knees--and that was helpful. I bent them and crouched a bit, trying to get my center of gravity lower, and finally had to let myself do a bit of a controlled fall so I could just go ahead and get it overwith. Except that I landed on the right side of my bum, and now although it didn't hurt when I fell, I can definitely feel it sitting on our nice soft couch. Ow.

If it's still this icy tomorrow morning, I'm seriously going to consider taking advantage of my shiny new VPN access to work from home.

Last, but not least, have a meme:

Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my annathepiper, in this life or the next.

After we finally get the proper front stairs built, the next project - clearly - should be a sidewalk down to the street.

Or something.

Weren't you the one who pointed out to me that a path from the house to the street isn't a sidewalk, but a walkway? :-)

Down to the next street. The one wasn't iced over, at the end of the one that was.

Sorry about your butt. I'm sure that will be me soon.....

Have you thought about getting some ice grippers (http://www.leevalley.com/garden/page.aspx?c=2&p=46633&cat=2,51676&ap=1)? I have version b and find them really useful.

Remember that ice storm which hit Frankfort and Lexington a few years ago? A video of an EMT team at a suburban home fetching a man who had fallen made the national news. The only way to get from the ambulance to the house was to sit and scoot, dragging their equipment. On the way back they just slid downhill. Even the patient in the stretcher was laughing as he slowly slid and turned down the mild slope.

Lucky you. Here in Bergen, it's currently 7 degrees Celsius, and wet. Having passed 60 days of rainy days, we've passed the all time high record of consecutive rainy days (defined as days with more than 0.1mm of rain), and it shows no sign of stopping.

Posting from my dad's house right now. My PC is still broken, and when the store, in their mercy, grants me a reply after I've been waiting on the phone for half an hour, all they say is that they still don't know when it will be ready. I think I'll go there in person on Tuesday.

"The grass is always greener..." With the current weather I'm feeling that any resemblance to actual winter would be an improvement.

After much nagging, they've finally loaned me a new computer, which I'm just setting up now. Looks like it's working reasonably fine. I'm just wondering how much I should install on it, considering that I signed a paper to return it in more or less the same condition I got it in.

Actually, there was no rain yesterday, so 84 consecutive days of rain was what it stopped at. And the people rejoiced!

Well, no they didn't, because lots of people were hoping that we'd break the all time high Norwegian record ever, which was said to be 87. Now it's been corrected to 103, measured in Fana outside Bergen in 1986.
