Batten down the hatches

On the way home from work, I had the extremely dubious pleasure of experiencing the worst rain I have ever seen in the fifteen-some-odd years I have lived in the Seattle area. Hands down. It was insane. Heavy, hard-blowing, horizontal rain that drenched me from the waist down as soon as I left the Times building. And this was only the side show--the winds were picking up already, but not yet strong enough that my umbrella was entirely useless.
Still, my shoes were soaked through completely by the time I got home, as were all of my belongings in my backpack. Fortunately my electronic devices are unharmed, but my checkbook's really rather damp. Marf.
Now we're all hunkered down at the Murkworks, waiting to see if the promised suck-ass winds are going to blow through tonight. We have power, though further down the hill there wasn't any--all the street lights were out along the windy goat-trail side road up from the Lake Forest Park shops. And one of the trees I passed was at a dangerously steep angle over the road.
Anyway, if we fall off the face of the Net, this'll be why.

Date: 2006-12-15 05:21 am (UTC)And yeah, the Times site was talking about how the prior weather has kind of pruned off some of the branches and such already from various trees. Of course, this didn't prevent that tree leaning at a really scary angle over the road as I was coming up the hill from Lake Forest Park.... -.-
