On the way home from work, I had the extremely dubious pleasure of experiencing the worst rain I have ever seen in the fifteen-some-odd years I have lived in the Seattle area. Hands down. It was insane. Heavy, hard-blowing, horizontal rain that drenched me from the waist down as soon as I left the Times building. And this was only the side show--the winds were picking up already, but not yet strong enough that my umbrella was entirely useless.

Still, my shoes were soaked through completely by the time I got home, as were all of my belongings in my backpack. Fortunately my electronic devices are unharmed, but my checkbook's really rather damp. Marf.

Now we're all hunkered down at the Murkworks, waiting to see if the promised suck-ass winds are going to blow through tonight. We have power, though further down the hill there wasn't any--all the street lights were out along the windy goat-trail side road up from the Lake Forest Park shops. And one of the trees I passed was at a dangerously steep angle over the road.

Anyway, if we fall off the face of the Net, this'll be why.

We had lightning and thunder earlier, in addition to the frickin' wind and rain.

Flickering lights and a brown-out or two... let's see how long before the power goes out for good.

I know how to stop this. I'll go buy a generator and then we won't have another power outage for years.

We just got named a FEDERAL DISASTER AREA up here from the floods last month. Wonder what we'll get this time? Cookies?

I was gonna say maybe our power hasn't gone out yet because the frickin' snow storm already knocked over all the trees... but I know that can't be the case. We're screwed.

I see that and I start thinking about the kid from "Clerks 2".

WOOHOO

I was downstairs, telling [livejournal.com profile] zenbastard "thank god the kid is in bed so we don't have to listen to him whine when the power goes out..." and the power goes out (for about 15 seconds).

kekekekeke

Your icon! Poor red-shafted northern flicker in a box, was it ill?

Naw, he was pecking at my kitchen window. What looks like a box behind him was the bottom of my windowsill flowerbox, before I added soil.

Having decided to skip karate tonight because I didn't want to drive anywhere in this pleasantry, I discovered that our humane mouse trip had caught another victim, and I had to take it down to the park through the lightning. Some of the lakes of water on the roads were impressive.

No doubt I'll be lying awake later watching the trees sway wildly outside the window again....

We're fine, but still powerless! How about you? I know they're still working on getting power to parts of your neighbourhood.
