BSG 3.03: "Exodus, Part 2"
Oct. 20th, 2006 08:48 pmHOLY CRAP, that was great. It's official. I am now in awe of Season Three. Let's hope they can now maintain this momentum!
Wow. So, so many things to goggle about here.
The entire scene with Tigh and Ellen, and Tigh slipping Ellen that drink. I thought he was going to wind up executing her somehow. And once she started sipping from that mug I thought in dawning horror, "Oh my god, he's poisoned her." And then she fell over and OMG.
The Galactica JUMPING INTO ATMOSPHERE. WOW. Just WOW. I thought seeing it appear overhead in the sky was cool, but then it got cooler, as the flaming ship descended and vipers swept out over the city and things started going splody and then the ship winked out again and holy CRAP that was hardcore navigation.
The Cylons realizing they're screwed and beginning the evacuation--and Three extending the offer to Baltar of a place with them, a "reward". And his staying behind. And Gaeta pulling the gun on him. And Baltar begging him to shoot him. And Gaeta letting him go to find the nuke.
Hera's adoptive mother getting killed. Baltar and Six finding the baby, and Three taking her, and AIGH.
That ever so fascinating little glimpse of Hallucination!Six AND Caprica!Six both present at the same time, so now we know that's actually possible, and what the FUCK is up with THAT, anyway?
Roslin coming into Colonial One with her team, and sitting down serenely in that chair, and announcing, "I'm ready to go now." NICE. SO VERY NICE.
Anders finding Kara. Kara going back for Kacey. Confrontation with Psycho Cylon Boy. Kara with hate seething in her eyes while she mouthed the words he wanted to hear--which of course is the only way to handle that, though I have to wonder, Psycho Cylon Boy couldn't tell she was clearly insincere? I mean, was he really that oblivious? Also, she took way too long to stab him. But she DID, so GOOD. Even if it was severely fucked up that she had to do it in front of the kid.
I do very much wonder how many times this makes that Kara's slain Psycho Cylon Boy, too!
(Also: I am very relieved that Anders did not come in during the kiss or overhear Starbuck's faked "I love you". They so easily could have brought him in at that point. A lesser show would have done that and taken the cheap source of tension that way. I am so, so very relieved it didn't play out that way.)
The Pegasus swooping in to save Galactica's ass as you absolutely knew it would. Adama growling, "Damn you, Lee" and then "Thank you, Lee" in the very next breath. Then the Pegasus taking out two base ships in a spectacular fireball, just as the Pegasus in the old series did. BEAUTIFUL.
Kara finding out that Kacey had a real mother. That the child wasn't really hers and that Psycho Cylon Boy had lied to her even about that. I'd half-wondered if he'd actually stolen a human child for this little plan of his. Now we know. Severe, severe mindfuck. Poor Kara. Man. And Kacey's mother--am I imagining things, or did we see her in a prior episode?
Everyone coming aboard the Galactica. Especially Tigh with his "permission to come aboard". I actually teared up at the exchange between him and Adama. Awwww man.
*CHEER* Adama losing the mustache!
WOW. And did I mention, WOW?

Date: 2006-10-21 02:49 pm (UTC)I seem to recall that we got a count of how many times Kara killed the Psylon boy last week. Five, maybe? So this would make six, assuming there weren't more offscreen in between.
Yes, we knew the Pegasus would swoop in to save Galactica, but it's a shame they blew up the newer battlestar to save the older one. I can't help but think humanity would have a better shot with the Pegasus - with Adama Sr in charge, of course - despite the havoc that would wreak on the show's title. :)
And I still find Fat Apollo way disturbing. I'm so shallow...

Date: 2006-10-22 06:16 am (UTC)I'm really curious now what this'll mean for the command structure of the Galactica, though. What the hell is Lee going to do now that his command has been exploded out from under him? I can't exactly see him returning to being the CAG.
And gods, I'm especially wondering about Tigh. And worried about the poor guy at this point, after what he's just had to go through. Bill's going to have a huge task on his hand keeping him from falling right back down into the bottle. -.-

Date: 2006-10-22 09:41 pm (UTC)With Saul missing an eye and walking with a cane - multiple leg/hip breaks, most likely - he may be in line for a medical discharge. I'd retire him and make Lee his dad's new XO.

Date: 2006-10-25 01:49 am (UTC)Not sure either if I like the idea of both Adamas on the bridge. Lee certainly outranks Helo (current XO, it looks like), and could probably legitimately step in and take over the position. But I'm not sure if that works for me in terms of character dynamics. We'll have to see how this plays out!

Date: 2006-10-22 06:11 am (UTC)And I would love, love, love to see that entire sequence of the destruction of the Pegasus on a big screen. That was gorgeously done. And yeah, she went out with honor. Long live the Pegasus!

Date: 2006-10-21 09:30 pm (UTC)HOLY FUCKING HELL!
The thing I think they will miss most is the loss of Pegasus's armory of ammo... but that is just me. Loved the fact that it destroyed two ships in one boom. (Can a Viper bay really destroy a ship so much? Why not just make them launchable? LOL)
Things that got to me:
-The heartbreak on Kara's face when she finds out that the child isn't hers. Oh, that wrenched my heart.
- The reunion of father and son, followed by the reunion of Admiral and Commander Tigh in the landing bay.
- The shear hatred in Gaeta's voice as he pulls the gun on Baltar. (He should have pulled the trigger...)
- Adama losing the mustache. Definitely...
Yeah, anyway...

Re: 99% perfect episode
Date: 2006-10-22 06:08 am (UTC)I don't buy Dualla and Lee either. Nope. Sorry! Sigh. :)
I am really, really curious as to how the command structure on the Galactica will rearrange itself now. I mean, you had important senior officers leave the chain of command--it doesn't seem quite like Tigh will just step back into the role of XO. And what the hell is Apollo going to do now? He got a whole new command of his own, and now that ship went splody. It doesn't seem likely he's going to just go back to being the CAG.

Date: 2006-10-25 01:41 am (UTC)I blinked and thought about it, and she said, "C'mon, you know this."
I thought about it some more, thought that Baltar was now gone, and went, "Oh my God, wasn't Zarek his Veep?"
This will be very interesting. Much will depend on a) whether the Fleet tells Roslin, "Screw Baltar, can we have you back please?", b) whether Roslin is actually interested in resuming the Presidency (she may well be, she certainly seems comfy back in a position of power as of the opening episodes of this season), and c) whether Zarek is going to step up and remind her of the line of succession, going, "AHEM. Hi, now that President Asshole is gone, I'd like that chair, please." ;)
