Sometime this week somebody flipped Autumn on around here. We've had the stereotypical autumn/winter Seattle weather: deeply, deeply gray and rainy and just generally unpleasant. It's been too wet to really be adequately protected from the elements by my lighter jacket, and not cold enough for my winter coat. The rain is the sort that blows all over the place, so that even if you open up your umbrella, it really doesn't make much difference because the sprinkles are going to blow right into your face anyway.

I had to leave for work a little later than normal this morning, due to a database tweak being made on the Times site at 7am, which required me to run some regression tests on it from home--because doing it from home meant I didn't have to haul my ass out of bed an hour and a half earlier than normal so as to get to work by 7am. Because that would have sucked. This meant though that I got to actually leave the house at the same time as [livejournal.com profile] solarbird for once, as we joked about whether I should come to class with her or she should come to work with me.

That also meant that we both got to see a total Silent Hill moment as we came around the corner of our street, looked ahead, and saw that Lake Washington was gone. The gray mist had totally obscured our view of the lake. It was actually kind of cool, and made it look like Kenmore was the only town in all of existence. (Though we still had an amazing amount of traffic for the only town in the universe.)

Problem with this weather is, it also means all the local drivers flip out as they all have to suddenly remember how to drive on wet, slick roads. On the way home this evening, downtown was full of impatiently honking cars. Not pleasant.

Meanwhile, my laptop has apparently decided that the place where the power supply connects to the computer is going to go haywire. I thought it was the power supply at first and even ordered a new one from Fujitsu, but the new one has not eliminated this behavior. This is vexing, as Dara and I cannot really afford to spend the extra cash necessary to send my computer all the way to the Fujitsu service center in Memphis so that they can diagnose what's wrong with it and maybe be able to fix it.

On the other hand, I can't exactly go without a computer. (Not that I'd really be without a computer; if I had to send Newstar off for maintenance, I could suck it up and write on Kimo if I had to. But Kimo's not my computer!)

Must remember to look up my receipt from purchasing this box in 2004, to remind myself whether I bought the extended warranty. I'm fairly sure I didn't. To wit, grumph.
