Show of hands: any of y'all not already aware I'm queer? Okay, just checking.

To be more specific, I'm bisexual. Mostly inclined towards boys (c.f. my zillions of posts on the virtues of Mr. Crowe and Mr. Doyle), but inclined towards the occasional girl as well, as my beloved solarbird can attest. I have also been periodically known to ogle Starbuck on Battlestar Galactica, Kaylee on Firefly, Kate and Sun on Lost, and such examples of fine elfin huntress pulchritude out of Elfquest as Ember, Dewshine, and Nightfall.

Try telling people you're asexual and often you get the kind of response that suggests you just haven't met the right person yet.

As a scientist mind you I'm willing to accept that this may be so. But so far not even the faintest of twinges of attraction to anyone in that way. The long term affection hormones that you can get stimulated just by stroking pets still seem to work for me though. Just not the 'whooosh isn't she/he hot' ones.

Still, I'm glad that you've got people that rock your world.

I'd find a statement of being yourself to be asexual to be not entirely odd; it seems a bit presumptuous of people to say "you haven't met the right person yet". You know, there are lots of people out there who simply just aren't attracted to people (in a sexual sort of way) and don't feel that need. I had a roommate who called herself asexual. It was pretty believable.

I didn't say I got that response all the time, but frequently enough to almost have me to the point of doing the sigh *roll eyes* in return. Last thing I read said it was about 1% of the population. So still a lot of us.

Thank you for sharing this! I've long found that sexuality is a broad spectrum--and it seems to me that if you can have a range of bits in charge of "liking boys" or "liking girls" and that one or both of them can be off or on, it should therefore certainly be possible that they can both be off.

Hiya and glad to have you about! And hee--I've got a thing for Dewshine, what can I say. Way back in the day, 'dewshine' was my most-used online handle, as well as my email address on multiple servers. Some of the later renditions of her, in the era of Tyleet Recognizing Scouter, gave her more of a huntress-y look that I liked and was a neat progression from her earliest appearances.

But at other times, I'm totally with you on Nightfall being hotter. ;)

s'funny, it's not uncommon in my world for someone to be bi and have for a primary the gender they're *less* attracted to all else being equal...

I'm totally with you on the elfin huntress pulchritude... and Kaylee. Terminally cute, *and* an engineer. What's not to love?

I think I'm mildly bi (like, 10% gay). Though I theorize it may just be A) the fact that I'm about 20, male, and consequently willing to hump anything that moves, B) confusing extreme acceptance for non-hetero lifestyles for attraction to the opposite sex, or...Something. For the moment I think it's probably A, though.

Well, it's always been my experience that sexuality is a spectrum. And it's certainly possible to be mostly attracted to one gender and only occasionally attracted to the other. That's the way it works with me. :)

Apparently I have been living under a rock, because I had no idea who Zooey Deschanel was until I looked her up saw that she was actually in something I've seen--Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. But apparently she didn't make an impression on me in that, since I totally failed to remember anything about her. ;)

As for Kaylee, actually seeing Jewel Staite in person during that Serenity premiere and seeing what a tiny, delicate little thing she is... hee. Same button that gets hit by Dewshine, I think. *^_^*

Apparently! Heh, hrmm, come to think of it, I think that's a tendency that's shown up in the majority of female characters I've played online as well. And there are male equivalents--I play males with the traits I find swoonable, too. ;)

Loving Starbuck with the longer hair, but personally, I prefer Boomer, Kaylee is gorgeous, so was Inarra. I'm not watching Lost (Put the air back in the room please) and not really read Elfquest.

Though at one time I thought I might swing both ways, but decided that I don't.*chuckle* My two ex's and my present SO don't think it was a bad choice.

Anyway, just thought I'd share... Not sure why.

And Inara was gorgeous in a totally different way than Kaylee, I'll totally grant you!

*giggle* Not surprised you're not watching Lost. Hell, I wouldn't be watching it if spazzkat hadn't gotten us all hooked on it in the first place in first season. ;) I don't normally follow network TV at all, so I'm lucky to be aware of what's on at all, much less be a regular viewer.
