Mostly, it was all about lost kitties, juggling numbers, and then juggling manuscripts.

I left work early Monday intending to go home and work on the editing for Lament, only to get alerted that [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt and [livejournal.com profile] llachglin's kitty Ash had gone missing. So I went to Bothell instead and hung out with Q for a while, helped her take Thor to the kitty boarder, and wandered around surrounding blocks calling "here kitty" looking for the little bugger. I found a cat, but not that cat, and Q and I roundly cursed the poor unsuspecting feline for not being the feline we were actually seeking. And the vexing part of it was, we heard Ash rustling around somewhere not far away, too, as we were hanging out in the living room. But we couldn't find him.

Yesterday I was going to hang with the lovely and talented [livejournal.com profile] mamishka, but then the Murkworks got called on deck for making lost kitty posters since Ash had not returned home the night before and Q and Erik had to go ahead and leave on their trip. Big, big kudos to [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat for dealing with that. Me, I got smacked upside the head with a Cranky Bomb--which I strongly suspect is involved with my thyroid dosage going off. Meh.

(I'm strongly suspecting that my recent changes in diet, while doing very nice things for my weight, are also tipping me over into having a bit too much Synthroid in my system, at least in the mornings. I'm going to go have my levels checked again this week, since I'm supposed to see my endoc next week anyway. I've lost like eight pounds or so since my peak weight of this year, though I'm not sure if that's enough yet to knock me back down a notch on the Synthroid dosage.)

After that, it was all about trying to do a zillion things around the house like paying bills and balancing checkbooks--a bunch of little things that had been sliding during my mad dash to get Lament and Faerie Blood mailed off. Numbers were juggled. Bills were paid.

And then at last I was able to dive into working on Lament. I tackled a bunch of beta reading tweaks I'd gotten in from a couple of my OKP beta readers (hiya, [livejournal.com profile] raise_a_jar!), and finally, finally started printing everything off and getting it all together to be mailed--only to then discover that I hadn't fixed a problem in the synopsis for Book 2, Shadow of the Rook. DOH. So I had to fix that and print it all over again, and by then, it was midnight.

All throughout the evening we heard loud booms outside--not only firework-type booms, but also what sounded distinctly like thunder. We never had any actual storm in Kenmore, but it was kind of chancy for a while there. We did do a lot of peeking out the windows and off the deck to see if we could see anything fun, and [livejournal.com profile] risu made jokes about chibi fireworks over the distant treeline. Hee.

And I got called by [livejournal.com profile] llachglin's dad last night as well, with the news that the cat had been seen lurking around the Burning Hand and just had to be corralled by [livejournal.com profile] llachglin's mother. Whew! Making calls this morning to see if I can confirm the capture of the wily feline, which will be a great relief.

So all in all, a mostly quietly Fourth. Hope everybody's holiday went well!

I actually saw some lightning, too. So I know there was real thunder involved.

We sat up on the roof of our building (third year of doing this) and witnessed -- west to east -- a slightly occluded view of the Ivar's flashy-boomy stuff, a crystalline view of the Lake Union (who sponsors that nowadays?) flashy-boomy stuff and a number of really excellent lightning strikes around St. Marks on Capital Hill.

If there was any thunder to go with the latter it was too intermingled with the boomy bits to tell.
