Work: I got handed my very first paycheck at the Seattle Times on Friday, which surprised me--with that being only my third day on the job, I was totally not expecting to get paid yet. Not that I minded, though! And it was kind of cool to actually get a live papercheck handed to me for the first time in ages. Next round they should have my direct deposit set up, so this should be the only paper check I get for a while, but it was certainly enough to make me feel kind of like a kid on her first job again, getting her first paycheck. ;)
Meanwhile, I have determined with
spazzkat's helpful assistance that my lunchtime options in the immediate vicinity of the Times are a bit scanty. However, the Mokas Cafe serves a "half sandwich and soup or salad" combo that may well turn into my standard lunch. It's almost exactly the right amount of lunch, plus it lets me get in half a mile of walking to get over there and get it.
Work-wise, the first three days on the job have been pretty groovy. I haven't had to do anything terribly difficult, but there's enough to do that I'm occupied for pretty much the whole day--which is a refreshing change of pace.
Exercise: It looks like my new minimum daily mileage is going to be 3.3 miles, assuming that I use the bus stops nearest to the house and go to the nearer Subway for lunch. My new maximum mileage would work out to be 4.35, assuming that I took the "goat trail" route to and from bus stops on the commute, and went to Mokas for lunch. This is a bit less than my minimums and maximums on the Real commute, which were 3.45 and 4.5. I'm definitely going to have to see about getting on the treadmill when I get home and taking an easy 30 minutes to get in another mile or so to keep my mileage count up.
Movies seen: Friday night we watched an old classic on DVD: The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, the Humphrey Bogart flick. This is the third Bogie movie I've ever seen, and it was fun. It made a bunch of old Warner Brothers cartoons suddenly make a whole lot more sense, too.
Last night we went out to the Woodinville theater to see Cars, which was an absolute delight. Pixar delivered yet another gem and proved that they are the undisputed masters of animation right now. The short at the beginning, "One Man Band", was also hysterical.
Shopping errands run: Yesterday, early on, I went out and ran a bunch of errands to buy Stuff. I went by The Soap Box in the U-district for yet another round of custom bubble bath, which is always a pleasure. Sure, fine, they may not be Lush, but they are fabulous with the custom mixes of bubble bath. They know me very well there these days, since every time I come in I get like four or five bottles of custom-mixed bubble bath, and I like to ask them for their recommendations on neat new mixtures. This time around they gave me mango + coconut (which smells wonderfully summery and tropical), aloe vera + cucumber (fresh and clean and delicate), and lavender + rosemary (very soothing and relaxing).
I also picked up a new Kitbook--
mizkit's The Firebird Deception, Book Two of her Strongbox Chronicles (side note: *LAUGH* I almost typed Strongbow Chronicles here, which is way funnier when you realize that both Kit and I were longstanding Strongbow fangirls on Two Moons MUSH). I decided to pick it up at the U Bookstore since I was using their parking lot while buying the bubble bath--and just because I hadn't bought anything there in a while anyway. Duane at the U Bookstore is on really good terms with Kit these days as well and had the book shelved right next to her Walker Papers books. This is stunning because this is perhaps the first time I have ever seen the U Bookstore voluntarily carry any series romance title. So I will clearly have to make an effort to buy further Strongbox Chronicles books there.
While I was there I also picked up Nina Kiriki Hoffman's A Stir of Bones. Kind of an impulse buy there, but I like her work for sort of de-Lint-esque, subtler modern fantasy.
I did then also head down to Barnes and Noble since I had a coupon for a free frappucino from there, which I wanted to make my weekend treat! So while I was there I also picked up a CD--my second Young Dubliners album, Red. I'm looking forward to giving that one and Real World more listens! Though when it comes to Bands Who Have Toured With Great Big Sea, I'm still first and foremost a Carbon Leaf girl.

And Duane is awesome. :)

Date: 2006-06-19 02:26 am (UTC)Agreed! I giggled through most of it. Had the added amusement of being the only NASCAR fan in the theatre and was amused by being amused at things no one else got :D

Date: 2006-06-20 06:37 am (UTC)Check out Key Largo and Sahara as well. And, for a real psycho treat, Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
And last, but certainly not least, Dark Passage... featuring Bogie, Bacall and a very young Agnes Moorehead (yes, Endora herself) as the femme fatale.

Date: 2006-06-20 04:18 pm (UTC)Well, yeah. That was the one we just watched. ;) But you're right, it's totally psycho! And Young Agnes Moorehead? Coooooool. :)

Agnes had an unusual but definite sexy thing going on in her youth.
