So, first day of new job today, rah! It went pretty well on the whole. I spent about an hour in the morning filling out the obligatory "starting a new job" paperwork, getting my badge, buying a Times-subsidized bus pass, and the like. And I spent more time getting briefed on what's coming up work-wise, getting acquainted with my shiny new work computers as well as the contractor sitting across from me, and getting briefed on the internal bug database. And then I got handed Stuff to Test that has to go out tomorrow, so Hiya! It's High Priority Stuff to Test On Your Very First Day at Work Day! And round about 4pm or so [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat said to me online, "So, I'm going to leave at five..." And I went, "Holy crap! It's ten after four already!" It's kind of amazing how fast a day can go when I have a whole day's worth of nonstop work to do.

I worked out the new numbers for what my daily walking's going to be like, and it looks like it'll be pretty much equivalent to what I was doing for my Real contract, depending on which bus stops I use. But today's number falls squarely into that range. Neat.

And I had to make an emergency stop at Third Place on my way home to pick up [livejournal.com profile] rachelcaine's Windfall. Which amused [livejournal.com profile] solarbird when I told her I was going to do this online. "Only you!" she laughed, and then quoted the Da Vinci Code line of Tom Hanks that everybody snickers about--which okay yeah, fine, it's about right for me, I must admit. Heh. And I might add the only reason I am not now devouring this book is because I have to write my own words tonight, and if I get distracted by the words in Windfall, I'll never get any writing done. I think I shall save this book for a weekend evening bath, as this is a read that definitely calls for a bubble bath and possibly also a Mike's. ^_^

Although it is not yelling for my attention nearly so loudly as Windfall, I also picked up [livejournal.com profile] donna_andrews's Revenge of the Wrought-Iron Flamingos, the third of her Meg Langslows. I have to admit, that's a pretty bitchin' title.

Last but not least, folks, now that I've changed jobs it's likely that my LJ posting and browsing habits will change as well--I won't have nearly as much time to browse my Friends list during the day. So if you have something you need to ping me about during normal working hours, better do it by email!

So glad to hear the first day went well for you! And that the time went by quickly :D

Resisting the lure of new literature is very difficult. I've gotten sucked into Every Which Way But Dead and will have to leave the house tonight with very few chapters left to read. ~grump~ I hate that.

I've neither read the book nor seen the movie, but still want in on the snickering--what line is that?
