I have passed a thousand miles out of Hobbiton! I mention this because it's a neat milestone, and a very concrete measure of how much walking I have done ever since I started the Walk to Rivendell on February 17th of last year. Pretty fabulous tally for a year and three months. Now to see if I can make it all the way to Isengard by the end of the year!
This weekend I expect to get in quite a bit of exercise as well, since
solarbird and I are planning to bike down to the U-district Street Fair on Sunday. Dara wants to spend some time collecting signatures for the renewable energy petition she's been working on, and I figure I can work on Lament while she's doing that. Then we'll walk the Fair! Anybody out there on my Friends list going to be at the Fair on Sunday as well, you should let me know. Maybe we can meet up.
In tandem with all this exercise I've had going on, I'm trying to work a little harder on the willpower. This has meant eating fruit with my sandwiches at lunch rather than chips or cookies, not buying any snackies when I get my morning diet Mountain Dew, and staying the hell out of the Starbucks and the Seattle's Best Coffee I go by on my way to the bus stop every evening. No real impact on my weight yet, which does not surprise me. But it has impacted my appetite and made me hungrier at the right times, so I'm hoping if I keep this up, I can get some changes going on. And I'm playing with the idea of allowing myself a Friday snackie on the way home if I make it through the whole week being good.
In other news, I have finished Laurie King's The Game and have swung right over into the next Mary Russell book of hers, Locked Rooms. I will do a full post on both books when I'm done with Locked Rooms, but will say for now that like a couple other folks who commented on my earlier King-related post, I didn't care for The Game too much. I'm already liking Locked Rooms significantly more. Tangentially related to this, I have also discovered that King's blog, Mutterings, has an LJ feed! So I've Friended it:
lrk_mutterings.
Tonight, I hope to write like a crazy writing thing. It may have to be on something besides Lament if I can't figure out my current blocking problem with that, but maybe I can knock something loose if I throw words at one of the other works in progress for a bit. Tomorrow, there will be a baby shower to attend, and as mentioned above, the Street Fair on Sunday! So a pretty full weekend all around.
