And this one's for the Russell fans

It seems that Russell's current band (The Ordinary Fear of God, a.k.a. TOFOG2) now has its very own official MySpace page. Bitchin'. :D Two songs off My Hand, My Heart are listenable there in their entirety: "Testify" and "Raewyn", which IMHO are two of the best ditties off the entire album. "Testify" is a good solid rocker of a piece, and well, I've commented on "Raewyn" before. And the page also has a neat group photo of the band, including the lovely and talented Mr. Doyle, whose influence (I continue to assert) has definitely kicked Russell's sound up a notch.
And damn, I wish I could make that show on the 17th! Sniff. :) If any of the Russell fans on my Friends list get to hit that show, I want to hear about it!
(Hrmm. Clearly I need me a Musical Russell icon...)

boxer_ferret: Russell's wife Danielle, who those of you who attended the TOFOG show with me in 2001 may also remember is a singer in her own right, also has a MySpace page up! She's got a new album coming out as well, and I may have to get that, 'cause I did rather like White Monkey.

Date: 2006-05-12 07:31 pm (UTC)Listening to Testify now. I think I can actually hear Alan's voice in the mix. The man can't blend...such a unique voice.

And oh wow, you are quite right about the date! It'd be fabulous if Russell did make the whole band sing "Happy Birthday" to him. There's some uncertainty though as to whether Alan will be at the gig--folks are asking about that on the OKP, and I can't find any solid data one way or another. It would not surprise me if Alan isn't there, given that it is his birthday, that GBS has just finished a long and exhaustive tour, and that there is a Baby Doyle on the way!

I just hope they make it one of these days back to Austin, now that I am FINALLY living so close.
I might be able to make you a musical Mr Crowe icon, if you would like :)
I'm off to sing Raewyn in my head, since it's too late to actually sing it out loud :D

Date: 2006-05-13 10:21 pm (UTC)I'm likely to whip up an icon myself if I can find just the exact right Russell picture to use--but this is not to say that if you felt like tossing an icon my way that I'd tell you no! That would be very nice of you. :)
