Great Big Public Service Announcement

This just in from branwyn32, by way of Raelyn in Ogden on the OKP:

Great Big Sea is being listed by Pollstar as scheduled to play Bumbershoot this September 3rd in Seattle. And given that for once Worldcon will NOT be overlapping Bumbershoot, I may actually get to go to this show--and attend Bumbershoot for the very first time since moving to the Pacific Northwest!

Other PNW GBS fans, I'll be watching the Bumbershoot site like a hawk as well as GBS's own tour page (which does not yet show anything about this). As soon as I have more data, I'll pass it along!

Two, two, TWO GBS shows this year! This is welcome news indeed. :D Thanks, branwyn32!

Yay for two shows this year! I'm still trying to manage to see them more than once every other year, but then again, the Toronto show this july is a weekend, and I actually have a job this year...

It is exactly for situations like these that I think sometimes that the world could actually benefit from cloning technology. Or at least the duplicator in Calvin and Hobbes!

Indeed, and less time on big, conspicuous busses. Though, it would make tour journals kind of boring to read I must admit.

*snicker* Oh, I dunno, I think that'd depend on whether or not the B'ys actually transported directly onto the stage and then right back off again, or whether they used the extra time saved by not physically travelling to sign more autographs for the fans and hang out in pubs and such.

And if anybody could write up an amusing tour entry about transporting after a couple of Guinnesses, it would be The Doyle. ;)

hmmmm .... having paid off the obscene MasterCard and Visa bills with the investment money from March, and with another investment maturing in mid-August, perhaps this might be in the realm of The Feasible, especially if the tix aren't sixty bux a pop.

(And huh, I wonder what the chances are of the B'ys playing Stanley Park as well if they're hitting Bumbershoot... 'cause last time they played Bumbershoot, they did a Stanley Park show that year as well... and man, I'd zip up to Vancouver in a heartbeat for another Stanley Park show!)

You lucky, lucky lass! :D That would be so cool for you to get to see them again. And for Dara's sake, I hope it's outside.

As the boring, Monday-through-Friday, work until at least 6pm job ends on May 31, I'm going to have to start exerting major self-control if the b'ys keep scheduling shows in different parts of the country. Because it's going to become very easy to say, 'hmmm...sounds like it's time for a road trip!' LOL It could be very easy to start bopping around the country to see the lads play :D

From what I remember from what mamishka, ssha, fredpdx, auntmonkey, and jessicac were all telling me, the first time the B'ys played Bumbershoot was indeed on an outdoor stage. So hopefully that'll be the case again this time. Outdoor would not only mean solarbird would get to come with, but hopefully also that we could both be properly positioned at Stage Alan for appropriate Vertical Movement. :D

And gods, I frequently wish I could road-trip around the continent to see GBS shows myself--I'd love to swing up into Canada, particularly, to see some of the shows there since I'd love to see more of Canada in general. Stupid having to work for a living. :)

Working for a living is highly overrated ;) It would be much nicer to be independently wealthy and be able to travel at will.
