I know I'm way behind on my BSG posts, but [livejournal.com profile] framlingem had reminded me I needed to do one of these for this episode so she could properly discuss it without worrying about revealing spoilers. We haven't even watched the most recent one yet--but we'll be doing that today when [livejournal.com profile] mamishka comes over! Watch this space for details on that. And in the meantime...

I have to admit, this episode surprised me with the hard right turn into the land of the grim that it took. After they pulled the punch and didn't kill off Roslin, I was stunned to see them whip around a few episodes later and bump off Billy. This was not the solution I was expecting to the burgeoning Billy/Dee/Lee triangle, either.

And as long as I've brought that up, I'll get that out of the way first. I'm still not feeling too keen on the whole Billy/Dee/Lee triangle thing, partly just because I'm sold now on the whole Lee/Kara thing, but partly also because I haven't really bought yet that Dee has any true interest in Lee past raw attraction. Or, for that matter, that Lee is truly interested in her. There's a bit of chemistry there, sure, but I haven't been convinced yet that they have anything there that really means something. So it's just irking me that the storyline is now going in a Lee/Dee direction.

Also, Lee/Dee sounds silly. Heh. But I digress.

I do at least appreciate that they didn't prolong the angst--and I appreciate that Billy got swiftly angry and told Dee point-blank that she should have told him that she was developing feelings for Lee. He was absolutely right, too. If Dee had put any value into their relationship at all, she should have damned well been honest with him and fessed up. Before it got to the point that Billy wanted to pop the question to her. And I guess that's another thing that kind of irked me about the whole concept of a Billy/Dee/Lee triangle... it depended on the angst factor of Dee not communicating to the man she's got the ACTUAL RELATIONSHIP WITH that she's become interested in another man. That's just not cool. Once, just once, I'd like to see a romantic subplot on a show not have to rely on the involved parties just not fucking communicating. It's hard enough to maintain a decent relationship when there is total honesty and the involved parties are talking to one another--there's no need to have people going behind one another's backs. I'd almost have liked to see Dee fess up immediately and then see her and Billy having to try to work out between themselves what this means for them.

Sigh. But at least they didn't prolong the angst. And all that said--AUGH THEY KILLED OFF BILLY. NOT expected. And certainly a hard kick to the teeth for our Madame President, who has now lost someone who'd become like a son to her. This close to her own brush with death, I find it intriguing timing, and I wonder if it will put her on a path to having that rescue from her own death eventually come back around and bite her in the ass.

Also, AUGH THEY SHOT LEE! *gulp* Also not really expected, though not as surprising as bumping off Billy, and certainly not surprising that Lee got dinged in one of the Traditional Hero Spots for Gunshot Wounds, i.e., the shoulder. ;) But good mileage there with making us Lee-oglers go AUGH, even if we all know damn well that they are NOT bumping off Apollo.

Other things I liked....

The refusal to negotiate with the group that seized the bar even if they did have the very valid point that the leaders of the Fleet had no way of knowing if their Cylon prisoner was leading them on--and to the credit of the actress who plays the Sharons, she keeps dropping little subtle suggestions that there's just a hint of a possibility that she might be. ;) It would have been very easy for Roslin to order that she be turned over. But I liked that they didn't go there, and that even Tigh, who was bitching loudly about keeping the Cylon around, agreed that giving in to the demands would be a lot more trouble than it was worth.

I liked that Ellen Tigh was actually... not much of a bitch in this episode. I was amused to see her think at least for an instant that Lee was coming on to her, and how she was willing to support his plan for going against the terrorists until it put her drink in jeopardy. Hee. But those one or two camera shots of her looking stricken and terrified also told me, yeah, this person is not a totally insensitive bitch. And that was nice to see, for what it was worth.

I liked Starbuck's guilt about having shot Lee--and how she managed to hold it together long enough to complete the operation, but you could tell she was really torn up about being responsible for his injury. And I liked that at least in their brief interaction about it over the comm, Adama seemed to realize that. I really, really hope that he won't give her shit about this later, and that Lee won't either. She's already pretty torn up about it--and that last bit at the end where she crept into the infirmary to see Lee and backed off when she saw Dee at his bedside was particularly wrenching. (And that last bit is also one of the reasons why I'm a Lee/Kara supporter. I buy that there's something THERE!)

I really liked Adama whipping out the other Sharon to try to fool the terrorist group. And I also like that they were clueful enough to realize the deception and that the corpse they had been given had been dead for weeks. Thank you, Ron Moore, for NOT making them idiots!

Next episode... MAJOR Adama? Isn't THAT interesting....!

I had mixed feelings about 'Sacrifice' as well, as I quite liked Billy and I _loathe_ Duallo. (Which I think sounds a little better than Lee/Dee, anyway) But. Having listened to the podcast, I get why it happened the way it did. Billy's actor was getting all kids of offers for work, leads in films and other shows, and the producers just didn't seem it was fair to keep him in what was essentially a minor supporting role. And because it was in no way part of Billy's character for him to leave Roslin, they decided he had to die.

That said, I really liked the _next_ BSG, "The Captain's Hand", and how they basically carried the storylines from Sacrifice forward without derailing the overall story arc because of them.

But Duallo still needs to die. :)

Dualla + Apollo = Duallo

I know here name. :) I doubt she'll die, but she's got an arc coming. I can feel it. Plus, I heard rumors-which-are-vague-enough-not-to-be-real-spoilers.
