Okay, Harry's slowing down with age--you can really tell in how he spoke to Jon Stewart--but I have to admit he's still got a charming sense of humor. Jon remarked on how he did all of his stunts in Firewall, to which Ford deadpanned, "Well I had to, they gave me so much money. It would have been rude..."

I also giggled at how Jon asked him whether he had any computer savvy at all, and he said no. Jon asked him if he had a Blackberry, and Harrison said he had "a phone". Jon snickered and observed he also had a watch--analog, even. Harry said he was an analog kind of guy, and went on to observe that he thought that computers only served to create "another class of people to come to your house and fix broken shit". Jon liked that, too, and chimed in that computers were for "shopping online and looking at porn--not that I mean to imply that you shop online! You've got people for that!" Harry joked about having people to look at porn, too. ;)

Also very funny: Jon asking "when will people in movies ever learn to NOT fuck with Harrison Ford?" Hee! Harry's answer, again charmingly sheepish: "I'd be out of a job." Aww.

And when he was asked about when his new movie was opening (which is to say, SOON), he sheepishly finished up by saying he hoped "a few people would go". Aww. Just for that alone I may have to go look at this flick!

I heart Harrison Ford.

I also heart analog watches. *is the only gal in school without a digital watch, it seems*

It's worth noting that the new movie also stars Paul Bettany, of 'Master & Commander' musical fame. O:) Of course, he's the bad guy, but eh. Still a hottie.

I've heard it's pretty much your standard mediocre thriller, but I've been surprised by movies like that before.

Aaaw, that's cute. :)

Mine is analog too. I wanted one with both, but I couldn't exactly complain when my father gave me a 3000 kroner Tissot with titanium casing for my 40th birthday.

Of course, a proper analog watch should be wound up every day, and is at best correct with a few seconds of accuracy after one day.

I haven't seen it yet, but I expect it to be on the Comedy Central site shortly. I did see him on another talk show recently. Jay Leno? They blur together.

Anyway, I noticed that he'd grown a civil war style beard for a film which is in production right now. So did Pierce Brosnan, when he was on The Daily Show a short while ago. Both of them? Is it the same movie?

Checking IMDB, it doesn't look that way. Pity. I would have liked to see them together.

Now I wonder what he'll look like as Indiana Jones, 25 years after the first movie.

Funny. Some links in LiveJournal now seem to have been badly translated into Norwegian, while most of them still are in English.

The Daily Show, or more specifically, the video clips on the web site (all I get right now) was where I saw Brosnan as well. I hope the Harry interview will be up by tomorrow.

"Harry"? I haven't heard that nickname for him before. In Norwegian, the name is slang for someone/something old, way out of date.

I don't see any particular language settings on my "Info" page. I have set that I live in Norway, but I think it's more likely that the language setting comes from my browser.

But God, looking at that "Info" page, someone has really done a hack job. Only about half of it has been translated, and it looks very much like a word for word substitution of the English text. I don't think it's been done by a translation engine, though.

I must admit that I'm a very poor authority on Norwegian slang. It comes from being so reclusive. I asked a co-worker, and he added that "Harry" also has a "rural" feel to it.

Naturally, people whose names really is "Harry," don't like it.

Other names with specific meanings include "Nils" and "Bjarne." Don't ask me.

There you go. I start writing another entry here, and I forgot why I went to write it in the first place. Mainly:

I have seen the Harrison Ford interview on The Daily Show now. Unfortunately, the video clip on the web site doesn't include the intro, which from the conversation that followed probably included a clip from the film they were talking about.

Curiously, once I'd seen it, I switched my TV to CNBC, where "The Late Show with Conan O'Brien" was on, who also had Harrison Ford as a guest! Highlight, despite a really threatening stare from Mr. Ford, he showed a clip from the Star Wars Christmas Special. I've never seen anything of it before. Clearly, good quality tapes of it still exist.

Oh dear, did I say "good quality" in connection with the Christmas Special? :-)

Making the rounds

Well, I saw Harry on Letterman yesterday, in a show that clearly was taped and presumably sent on American TV on the day after the Super Bowl. And so he's made the complete rounds, as far as I can see: Jon Stewart, Leno, Conan and Letterman. He told Letterman: "I'm a nice guy."

Seems like the movie owes a little to "Ransom."

Ransom was originally a movie from 1956 which starred Glenn Ford, but I guess I was thinking more of the 1996 remake which starred Mel Gibson. His son is kidnapped, and when he realizes that the kidnappers don't mean to release the hostage, he turns the table with some juggling of the ransom money.

It's also the title of a 1975 film with Sean Connery as the "Scandinavian Chief of Security Nils Tahlvik," with a huge fur hat. It would have been nice if they acknowledged that the entire film took place in Norway rather than using "Scandinavia" as if it was the name of the country. :-) But if I look past the patriotic thrill of seeing a star like Connery playing a Norwegian in a hijack drama, I must probably admit that it's a pretty forgettable film.

He has always been one of the most humble people to come out of Hollywood. It's so sweet :)

Harry joked about having people to look at porn, too. ;)

And snarky, too! Could it get any better? (Well, there's the whole 'Calista' angle, but we just won't think about that ;D)

Hmmm...my watch is analog, too. I hate digitals. Sad thing is, my 19-year-old sister-in-law can't read an analog clock. Blows my mind...

Hell, there are kids who have trouble remembering cassettes, much less LPs! I'll be glad to stop working with college kids who consistently remind me of how old I am :D

Harrison Ford

I recently picked up the Director's Cut of Blade Runner on DVD. Watching it last night for the first time, I was amazed at all the details I had missed previously. I think just omitting Deckert's monologue helped the film. Anyway, I was impressed (once again) by the performance Ford gave, IMHO unlike anything he had done before or since. That may be due in part to an outstanding director, or perhaps it was because he had not yet been typecast in the role of 'leading man'. A smart actor with that wry sense of humor, he has picked up where James Stewart left off.

The cinematic difference between the Director's Cut edition on DVD and the original VHS version cannot be overemphasized. It really is much better. You should see it, you owe it to yourself! ;)

Drat. I've got the Blade Runner Director's Cut on my Amazon wishlist for forever, but it's out of stock on Region 2. I keep waiting for a new edition.
