Oh my, the envy

branwyn32 reports that there is a big plan in the works for a bunch of the GBS fans attending the Somerville show on April 29th to bring instruments and jam before the show. I am BEYOND envious. Bringing instruments to a GBS show and jamming in the parking lot beforehand sounds ridiculously delightful. I would do that in a heartbeat if I knew enough local diehard instrument-playing GBS fans. ;)

If any diehard instrument-playing GBS fans in or around Somerville (yo, lyonesse? Anybody in your crowd going to this show?) are reading this and don't already know about the Great Big Tailgate Kitchen Party Parking Lot Jam Thingy, go bug Branwyn for details. And then tell me all about what happens, 'cause if I can't do this in person I damn well want to do it vicariously!

You know, one could always host one's own jam session.... sure, one doesn't have a GBS concert to do it before, but that's not really an obstacle...

Been there, done that, was running the web site for Three Good Measures, my former jamming group. I'd do it again, except trying to get people to show up on a regular basis was very difficult.

Most of the members of my jamming group are now busy doing other things, and the rest of them are no longer local. wingedelf is about the only other local diehard instrument-playing GBS fan I know, and he's got a pretty full plate too. He and I keep making periodic noises about jamming at one another, but so far we haven't managed to make it work. sarekofvulcan also is a musician, but he's a clarinet player, which is not really traditionally a folk instrument. ;)

OH YEAH, I have chatted with Columbine in email as well as on the OKP and the Fishtank, and about the smallness of the world that she was connected with your crowd there. Yay! :)

we should organize such a jam for the feb 11 show. As I've said, I did talk to their booking agent the other day...and...too bad I don't play any instruments but The Voice.

My problem is, most of the people I know who are both a) musically inclined and b) raving enough GBS fans to want to learn all their songs backwards and forwards are either not local or not going to the show. Sniffle. :)

(Though mamishka is coming, and she sang lead for a lot of the stuff our jamming group did. And our off-LJ friend Fred is also coming to the show--he was our dulcimer player. He's coming up from Portland to crash at our place and we'll probably futz around with some of the GBS stuff he's trying to learn anyway!)
