DUDE. O.O I am experiencing a strange sensation. It feels like... interest in football.

I only just realized this afternoon how well the Seahawks had been doing. I mean, I'd been hearing about how well the Hawks had been doing over the last few weeks, and [livejournal.com profile] spazzkat has been making jokes about wondering when the team had been replaced by alien replicants who could actually like, y'know, PLAY BALL, but I hadn't really clued in about how far along they'd gotten. And when I realized that whoever won the Seattle/Carolina game would be playing Pittsburgh at the Super Bowl, suddenly I went, "... whoa."

Normally [livejournal.com profile] solarbird is the only football watcher here at MurkNorth, but today? We ALL watched the game. I was almost as amused by the crowd as I was by the sheer sight of the Hawks mopping the field with the Panthers--just all these thousands of people going absolutely batshit all throughout the game. And I'm sure that things are going to be equally batshit downtown all night!

Looks like we're going to have to watch the Super Bowl. I know exactly... what's the word? Oh yeah. NOTHING... about football. I am not a football fan. And for all I know Pittsburgh may eat the Seahawks for breakfast.

But I'll still cheer on our team for actually GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL! Awright! ^_^

*laugh* We watched the drunks at the bar during the games too. It was funny, funny.

Stupid, drunk antics can be a lot of fun to watch from a safe distance.

What's Detroit like this time of year?
Terrible, like always. ^_^

Even Diana is watching the game. Darrell Jackson bought a house down the street from us, so now she feels personally connected.

It's just a bizarro world universe where the Seahawks are actually good, much less good enough to go to the Super Bowl.

I think it started right around when the Red Sox won the World Series.

Oh, and Darrell Jackson is #82, he caught a touchdown tonight.

Detroit is shit at this time of year. Lots of brown slush on the streets and they put down lots of salt on the roads to eat away at your car. There's no rust spots on cars out here in California unless it's a car that's moved here from the rust belt.

Detroit has to be the worst city ever to get a Superbowl and the only reason they got one is payback for them building a nice shiny new stadium. Our city is beautiful and perfect for the Superbowl but we've been threatened that we won't get any more unless we build the Chargers a new stadium.

I was very surprised at the Seahawks. They've snuck up on me all year. I do think they'll be eaten alive by the Steelers, but I was wrong calling Carolina the winner today, so I wouldn't be surprised if this predicton was wrong too.

It's awesome when your local team wins something -- Syracuse won the NCAAs three years ago and it was BEDLAM. And I loved every minute of it.

I've never been much of an athletic supporter (ahem) but I confess it's a bit exciting that the Seachickens are heading for the big one.

I live right downtown (corner of 4th and Bell) and people driving by honking and screaming was my first clue that we'd won. I happened to be at a news site at the time and when I clicked back to their home page it'd already changed to indicate the win.

I happened to be driving back through Portland, OR (where I was raised) back in '77 when the Sonics took the championship and the entire city was off the hook.

So, while I'll be rooting for the Hawks in two weeks I'll be doing it with the doors to the street firmly closed.

Of course, I won't be able to watch as we still don't own a TV.

I didn't get to watch either game yesterday ~pout~ as I had to spend the day at the theatre and dinner with the parentals. But I do have to say, Go, 'Hawks! Good for them. :)

Ought to be an interesting match-up in two weeks!

Congratulations from me, too.

I do know the feeling, from back when Norway beat Brazil in foot... soccer during the World Cup qualifications. I have hardly any interest in the sport, but then I suddenly had to follow our team.

I checked out my listings to see if any TV channel showed the Super Bowl. I didn't even know what sports channels I get -- that's how disinterested I am. But I just discovered that the game you're raving about starts up as a rerun right now!

And I'm off to bed, but I've started my VCR.

Happy birthday, by the way. I sent you something from Amazon on a whim. Having thought it through, it might not be to your taste, in which case you can do what you like with it, but I got the idea back when I visited you.

Oh, drat. At the same time as your reply, I got a message from Amazon that the estimated delivery date was February 2nd. Sorry, I guess I should have paid a little more on postage.

Well, sorry. I'm watching it now, but I don't have a clue about the rules of the game. Zilch. Nada. I see the "SEA" score going higher and higher, but that's my only indication of how the game is going. Sorry, I'm not a convert to your kind of football.

Maybe it is not meant to be watched alone.

By all means, I wish your team the best of luck at the Super Bowl, and I may even watch it -- taped like I do now -- but I wll probably forget the whole thing afterwards.
